Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted January 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Has anyone been in Bristol as a port call on a cruise? Will there be a taxi rank or a shuttle into the city from the port? Does Bristol have Uber and if so can they get onto the port? I'm asking because it's a commercial port, and there could be security issues. The only info I can find is for cruises that depart from Bristol. I tried contacting the cruise port, but got no reply. All I want to do is get into Bristol City Centre and I can take it from there! insanemagnet Posted January 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2018 There is a taxi rank at the cruise terminal - https://www.bristolport.co.uk/cruise/finding-bristol-cruise-terminal 'Bristol' cruise terminal is at Avonmouth 6 miles from Bristol. I doubt there are shuttles unless organised by the cruise company.
Bob++ Posted January 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2018 You are right about not walking: Please note the Port Authorities do not allow passengers to walk from the Port Entrance (West Town Police Gate) to the Cruise Terminal, all passengers must arrive by some form of transport. There does not seem to be any form of public transport so the ship is likely to lay on shuttles or you could pre-book a taxi. http://www.avonmouthtaxis.co.uk/ https://callcarsbristol.cabubble.co.uk/ I found those firms in a search and have no personal knowledge of them. The fare to Bristol looks to be between £20 and £25 for the car.
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted January 18, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Thanks for the info. My main concern is that the port website is all about beginning or ending a cruise in Bristol, when the port expects a lot of traffic over a few hours, and security will expect to see taxis. Our port stay is long, about 9 AM until 11 PM. I'm concerned about trying to get back to the ship in a taxi and being stopped by security. Even if they didn't have rules against walking, it's quite a hike from the gate to the ship. I've tried contacting the port twice with my questions, but haven't had an answer. When I was looking into private tours, I saw a few that wouldn't pick up at the port, which is why I'm a bit nervous about making connections. aquilegia Posted January 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2018 I think you are worrying unnecessarily. The port officials at the gates will know when there is a cruise ship in port and what time it is due to sail. Why would they want to stop you? I only live a few miles from Avonmouth port and I have never seen or heard any reports of passengers having problems getting back to their ship. I'm sure the local papers would highlight any such occurrences.
