Rare TLCOhio Posted July 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2018 During the past few months, we have been reading about the serious water challenges facing Cape Town and parts of South Africa. Need some good news? From the London/UK Telegraph two days ago, they have this headline: “How Cape Town beat the worst drought in its history” with these highlights: “Crisis was averted thanks to city-wide pleas to locals and visitors to regulate water use, including restrictions on taking baths, flushing the toilet and washing clothes, but concerns remained that the city would face more shortages by the end of the year. This week the city said thanks to 'sustained and heavy rains over the last two months, Cape Town’s dams have collectively increased by over 20 percentage points'. Day Zero will now not take place in 2018 or 2019.” Full story at: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/africa/south-africa/cape-town/articles/day-zero-averted-cape-town-drought/ THANKS! Omega1 Posted July 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2018 Thanks Terry, that’s good news. Last time we were there, lNovember 2017, we were taking quick showers, collecting the water for the B&B garden and restricting the number of times we flushed the toilet. Looks a lot better for our next visit in January.
wishfulone Posted July 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2018 We've just returned from Cape Town and while the restrictions are still in place there's an air of relief. We also had rain for a week! Nothing heavy, but it rained at some stage every day :)
