popndeda Posted July 1, 2008 #26 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Are there any pre (on line) qualifying or the such....or do you just show up and play....I'm booked already on the Nov 29 HAL Poker Cruise out of San Diego on the Oosterdam. Didn't know it was a poker cruise when I made the reservation.

If you book through CPC, you automatically have access to the poker room. But if a cruiser who just happens upon us and would like to play they can purchase a "membership" for the week. It's normally around $150.

I do not know how it all works as far as pricing. The number is (888) 999-4880. Please let them know that Joe V from Minnesota gave you some information. I need brownie points!! And no, I do not get any compensation for referrals. Last year on the Riviera cruise I was the swing shift brush/floor/board and hope to do the same this year. If you see me don't hesitate to say hello. -Joe V
Boatdrill Posted October 4, 2008 #30 Share Posted October 4, 2008 . I've only sailed on Holland America vessels so I can not speak for any other line. Although next year many of the cruises are going to be on RCL, I do not know why. There's been too much trouble on those cruises and HAL has pulled the plug. Boatdrill Posted October 4, 2008 #31 Share Posted October 4, 2008 By the way, if anyone wants to know in advance what groups are booked on a HAL cruise, there's a link on the Holland America message board.
DalTXColtsFan Posted April 17, 2017 #32 Share Posted April 17, 2017 Resurrecting a 10-year-old thread LOL! I love poker and I love cruising, so a poker cruise is like the dream vacation for me. I've only been on one poker cruise - that was back in 2014 (wow, I cannot BELIEVE that was 3 years ago!!!) through Card Player Cruises on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas. All a poker cruise really is is just a regular cruise with added access to the exclusive poker room, a reserved seating area in the main dining room, a welcome party, a goodbye party and lectures from poker hall of famer Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher. The poker room is phenomenal - there were dealers in there who had dealt at the world series of poker. The atmosphere is jovial and friendly. The ONLY "criticism" I have of it, if I can even call it that, is that I felt like a lot of the other players were good players. I prefer to play at tables where 5 to 7 people will call a preflop raise with anything and call 3/4-pot bets on the flop and turn to chase a gutshot (you know, so there's actually a chance to make money :) ). But I felt like most of the people there at least knew basic strategy which reduced the profitability of the games. I'm going on another poker cruise at the end of this month (Card Player Cruises again this time on Liberty of the Seas) and I'm a much better player myself now than I was 3 years ago, so we'll see what I say about the competition then :). For comparison, one time when I was on Liberty of the Seas I went down to the casino and they actually had one table for poker - it was only $2/$5 no-limit. It was 15% rake, but it was the softest poker game I've ever played. Feel free to ask and I'll happily share my opinions!
