Pride of america - hilo to kona

Hi Everyone.

I was wondered if anyone has sailed POA recently? And if the still ever sail past Kilauea Volcano between Hilo & Kona?

We sailed POA in 2012 as we were lucky enough to sail past as the lava flowed - but in 2013 we sailed again, and we ended up sailing to Kona over the top of the big island, rather then the bottom past the volcano.

In Feb 2014 we sailed on the south side, past the volcano but the lava wasn't flowing then. I think all of the recent lava flows have been down the eastern facing side of the volcano.

We sailed past in September and saw the lava flow into the ocean. it was about 9:30 at night and they do a slow sail by with a presentation. It was very impressive and one of the highlights of the trip.

Using the search engine here on CC will give you a ton of info on current lava situation

After using the search and putting in "lava flow" on th Hawaii ports of call board here is a link to what came up.

I was on the 10/22/16 sailing. I had a balcony room on the starborad side. At 9pm I got out of bed, sat on the balcony, and waited until we sailed pass the lava flow. Very nice.

I saw the POA last evening as it sailed on its way to view the volcano. The lava is still flowing.....as of last night ;)
