Red Hat Cruise Cat Posted September 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Can you suggest a tour company for a Santarem, Brazil City Tour? All of my tour searches for Santarem come up with the "Meeting of the Waters" which I will be doing from Alter Do Chao, Brazil. So I would like to do a city tour in Santarem. Lunenburg Posted September 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2018 I have not been there but here is some info. Sounds like you could just walk into town. There is a town map on that page as well. https://www.whatsinport.com/Santarem.htm
mcmarya Posted September 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2018 There is not a lot to see in Santarem. Unfortunately, the port is around 2 miles from the center of town. If you arrive around noon, as we did, it's a hot walk. They do have taxis, but I thought they were a bit expensive considering the distance--I think it was about $10 per cab. In town we got wi-fi at the place that is at the sort of point. There is a gift shop there and it hangs out over the water. You can see the meeting of the waters from the ship or from the wi-fi place. Probably the most popular tour there is the piranha fishing tour. You take a river boat down a sort of tributary and stop to try to fish for piranhas. Along the way there are usually birds to see and water buffalo. John Bull Posted September 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2018 Santarem is quite small, and very grubby. Most interesting sight we saw was vultures fighting over rubbish bins :D OK for a wander, but not worth a "city tour" - if indeed there even is such a thing. While there (overnite) we sailed the meeting / wedding of the waters (sounds much grander than it is, it's just where muddy brown water meets less-muddy brown water, but the whole boat ride was excellent), and a rain-forest walk (IMHO a waste of time, little to see) combined with time relaxing at Alter Chao - a very attractive lazy waterfront. I wonder whether you'd do better to spend your Alter Chao day relaxing on its beach, and do the meeting-of-the-waters from Santarem. A wider choice of boats in Santarem and less travelling overall.
