vbmom87 Posted January 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Does NCL ever offer deals for singles? My DS went with us to ALaska on HAL. They charge one and a half times for a single. However, we are going to Hawaii this time and NCL is our only option and they have not deals. A Single has to pay the double price. Just wondering if NCL ever comes up with a deal for singles. Thanks.
MerDub Posted February 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2010 Check out epic.ncl.com Their new ship has a whole separate exclusive area called the studios which are rooms that are designed specifically for the solo traveler. They look pretty sweet, although not huge, would be fine for a week for one person. There is a studio lounge for these solo travelers and many are connecting for friends who want their own space. There is no single supplement, so the price is for single occupancy. This is a really great idea, and the whole ship looks pretty amazing. Can't wait to book a trip on it! Venusleo1 Posted March 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2010 I booked a studio room on the Epic! This will be my first 7 night cruise and only because of the studio rooms having no singles supliment. I'm sooo excited to actually get to take a full week cruise. I normally cruise royal but I can't aford to pay 150-200% for a 7 day cruise and have to wait for a really great last minute residency discount on a 3-4 nighter to be able to afford it. I just can't do $200/day solo prices. I'm so happy about these new studio rooms and I hope more lines start adding them to their fleets.

The fare for the studio cabins is indeed slightly higher than the pp fare with 2 people in a regular inside cabin, but not all that much more. I certainly walk that line between wanting to go sail by myself, and realizing that if I'm paying for two people I might as well grab a friend who can't necessarily afford it themselves and treat them for free! I'm seriously looking at doing a hosted singles cruise on the Epic that's sailing October 30th this year, but all of the studio cabins are sold out already. :( Guess I'll have to do the roommate matching instead on this one, at least! Ldyandrea Posted June 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2010 It would be great if you would tell us how you liked the studio and lounge. Btw, my sister is a cruise TA and is going to be on a 2 night sailing of the Epic out of NYC next week. I'll let you all know what she thought of them! tahoemw Posted July 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2010 I would like to know how you made out on the Epic tahoemw@sbcglobal.net. I booked this one for April 8, 2011, studio. You know, you are in your room to shower and sleep, not to STAY there all day, so for me saving money on this rate for the studio is better than the rates all the other lines are getting from all us singles. Maybe Royal will do something like this, I like Royal

Thanks. We did cruise with our DD, we paid for 2 cabins at the double price, totaled it up and divided it by three. My husband I paid 2/3 and my DD 1/3. Splitting the cost only made our cruise just little more expensive and gave my DD a break.
wildeklave Posted March 30, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2011 I will be on the Epic next February with one of the large hosted singles companies. The ship looks great. The studios are a huge selling point. On my cruise it seems the studios have been sold out, except for the ones that travel agents have reserved. AttractiveNuisance Posted August 17, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 17, 2011 I know you were asking about a singles cruise rate, but since I had some related info I thought I'd share. Id suggest really checking it out first, because last year I went on the NCL dawn to Bermuda, it was great, but from a singles perspective it was dead. (went in may). The bars and casino were dead in the evenings. The most excitement (and pretty much the only people in the bar) was a small group of high school students who were drinking while chaperoned by one of their moms. I wasn't single at the time. But even with someone it was disappointing how quiet and deserted it was at night!
Dancer Bob Posted August 17, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2011 I wouldn't believe the brochure hype about no single supplement. When I comparison-shopped the studios, I could have gotten single occupancy on another NCL ship for about the same price, and the studio rate was about 150% of the double occupancy rate on Epic itself. But the Epic did seem to be trying harder to accommodate singles than most other ships. I looked at one of the hosted singles companies, but I decided it was too alcohol-oriented for my taste. Lots of pub crawls, and their shore excursion in Nassau was to a bar.

For some that is worth more, for others ...maybe not.
Dancer Bob Posted August 20, 2011 #14 Share Posted August 20, 2011 The Epic singles' lounge is about equivalent to the breakfast room in a budget European hotel. Nice for a quick continental breakfast, but otherwise never very much going on except for the hosted singles meeting. The furniture isn't comfortable to sit in for any length of time.
