Disembarkation in Rio de Janeiro

Could someone with recent experience please describe the procedures and timing involved in end of cruise disembarkation and immigration/customs clearance in Rio de Janeiro? I have heard that there can be delays for non-Brazillians. Also, are there taxis waiting near the ship please? I am wondering how quickly we could get ourselves to nearby Santos Dumont airport after an 8:00am planned arrival.

Just make sure you have your visa

Gramps

Yes thank you Gramps. We already have our visas.

I am allowing 2.5 hours to get through it all plus another half hour to get to the check in at the airport which will be one hour prior to the flight.

That seems to be fine, from what I have discovered through my research, but it makes it closer than I would prefer at the other end of the flight in São Paulo - we need to get to our next ship in Santos by 3:30. There is time here for holdups but it is still closer than I would like.

I usually arrive into the city of embarkation a couple of days early but it just was not possible this time.
