1stTimer02/2011 Posted January 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2011 We are staying an extra evening in New Orleans after our cruise... flying out on the Monday morning. We're flying home on Monday the 7th of March. Can anyone suggest a city tour in New Orleans? I did check out the Tours by Isabelle, but they seem rather pricey.. and we don't want to a swamp tour... more historical.... Any suggestions? 2112 Posted January 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2011 http://www.neworleanscvb.com/static/index.cfm/contentID/257/sectionID/1/subsectionID/0 That looks like a good one, but if you do it walk up an extra 2 blocks from the French Market to the Old Mint. I can't believe they left it out. Don't forget the Sunday night Mardi Gras parade!
gosaints2006 Posted January 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2011 The riverboat trips can be interesting. Make sure you sit on the Port side (left) of the boat. You see more of the city. http://www.steamboatnatchez.com/
Dushi Posted January 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Just got back from NOLA. The Old Mint is undergoing renovations on the upper floors so only the displays/exhibits on the first floor were open (no charge) which took us 10 minutes to see. Paid $6 to see the "Katrina Museum" which was a bit disappointing (building next to the Cathedral). The "Mardi Gras Museum" on the 2nd floor was undergoing renovations and therefore closed to the public. The "Natchez" steamboat was not operational at the time. I noticed the workers making repairs to the paddlewheel on a weekday. Just strolling around the French Quarter was enjoyable. Jackson Square was packed with entertainers, artists, musicians and tourists on Sunday.
