G.M.T. Posted October 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2017 The actual town of Kota Kinabalu is not very interesting, it got flattened in WWII. To do: a. Snorkelling on the off shore islands b. Visit floating village c. Walking tour of Mount Kinabalu (over 4000 meters high) d. Oran Utan Sanctuary Visit Sandakan (old town intakt), need to fly which takes about 45 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. a. Visit town b. Japanese POW camp and site of death march (an eerie silence prevailed there during our visit) c. Oran Utan Sanctuary d. Jungle walks

pjules Posted November 16, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 16, 2017 I don’t think the orangutan sanctuary is an option; the only one I found near KK is a 5 hour drive away. Does anyone know differently? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Karennella Posted November 17, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 17, 2017 There used to be one at the Shangri-la Ras Ria out of Kota KInabalu. But I think it has now closed as the animals were ready to be moved to the next stage of rehabilitation in Sandakan. We had a wonderful holiday in Sabah and booked a three night tour as well as a day tour with Borneo ecotours. We were very happy with them. We were staying in a jungle camp up the river when one night David Attenborough and his entourage arrived for dinner. But back in Kota Kinabalu, we had a very interesting day tour to Mt Kinabalu and Poring Hot Springs.
