Carnival Vista Questions.

Hey All! We look forward to cruising on the Carnival Vista in April! It will be my hubs 1st cruise! We have a few questions:

-smoking. Are there designated smoking areas? Is poolside smoking/non smoking?

-themed parties. How do you know if the cruise director has planned an all white attire party/80s theme etc? We would like to pack accordingly.

-excursions. Any recommendations for excursions in Ocho Rios(besides Dunns River).

Any and ALL other tips are welcomed.

In Ocho Rios earlier this year my niece and I did a tour with Courtney Taylor tours. I found him by doing research here on these boards. Our guide was named Charlton Brooks and he was awesome. Tons of knowledge about Jamaica, and a really personable, fun guy. Highly recommended.

Cruise Critic has a review board. Find your port of call, look at the tours for that port, and the ratings by people who have gone on the tours Have Fun

Carnival Vista

Cigarette smoking (including electronic cigarettes and personal vaporizers) are permitted in the following areas:

• Vista Casino: Smoking is permitted while playing at designated slot machines and table games.
  
• Vista Bar: Smoking is permitted in designated area.
  
• Outdoors: Smoking is permitted in designated areas on Deck 5 (starboard side, forward) and Deck 11 (starboard side, aft and starboard side, forward-above the Redfrog Rum Bar).
  
• Note: Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted in the above designated outdoor smoking areas on Deck 5 (starboard side, forward) and Deck 11 (starboard side, aft).

Sail Away Party

Join your Cruise Director to kick off your vacation in true island style .. it's time to say "Adios"... "Hello Fun!"

Following the Safety Briefing and as the ship sets sail, gather at Lido Deck midship for some fun with our cruise staff - our resident DJ gets the party started with music, dancing and drink specials!

Mega Deck Party

Looking for a party you’ll never forget? We’ve got just the thing. Join the Fun Squad for fun and dancing. Smiling ear to ear is a common side effect.

The Mega Deck Party is an island inspired party that celebrates the fun and spirit of RedFrog and BlueIguana - the colorful namesake characters from our poolside watering holes. Up for some pool volleyball? The Fun Squad will get you on your feet for line dancing and Limbo - "how low can you go?"

The Mega Deck Party is featured on all cruises, on a 'cruise casual' evening and will immediately follow the second show in the main lounge. Join in and wear red or blue clothing in honor of some of our favorite places to have a drink!

Serenity Under the Stars

It’s the evening’s star-studded encore party. Great music, fresh sea air and a lounge vibe to inspire romance, camaraderie and maybe even a little dancing fun!

Serenity, Carnival's outdoor adults-only retreat is transformed into a South Beach-style club under the stars, complete with spectacular lighting effects and a crowd-pleasing mix of popular music spun by our resident DJ.

Serenity Under the Stars is featured on all ships with the exception of the Carnival Triumph.

80s Rock-N-Glow Party

A totally bodacious deck party with awesome giveaways, a rad 80s themed dance contest, a tubular 80s pop concert with our onboard Rock band and of course, the Thriller dance! The 80s Rock-N-Glow Party is a new experience that is high energy, fun, unique, and showcases our exciting musical offerings. Whether you rock up to the party in leg warmers, neon pink shirts, big gold chains and even bigger hair, you will be welcomed with neon glow sticks to dance the night away on the open deck!

The 80s Rock-N-Glow Party will be featured on cruises six days and longer and take place one evening during the latter half of the cruise.

The White Hot Dance Party is a Happy Hour in the Dance Club, that's why it's not mentioned with the above parties. Wear any bit of white to the dance club and get $1-2 off select vodka drinks. Since this is traditionally the first hour the dance club is open (about 10 pm) on the first Elegant Night there is no need to wear all white (who wants to wear all white to a dinner involving sauces, melted butter, and wine on a ship that might rock unexpectedly). Some Beverage Managers will allow the Cruise Director to have a pre-party in the Atrium or Ocean's Plaza with the same beverage specials, about an hour before the dance club opens, but this is an exception rather than tradition.

sorry to hijack thread but I also have a question for anyone who may know -

Are the doors on the Vista magnetic meaning can I put magnetic photo paper up and they will stay in place?

I believe i read they are magnetic. Not 100% sure . Good question.

We utilized Peat Taylor Tours in Ocho Rios and had Peat Jr. (aka Repeat) and had probably one of the best excursions ever. We booked Dunn's River and then the ocean horseback ride. The guides were great along the way and when we got into the water on the horses, it was breathtaking.

Did you find this tour guide once you got off the ship or did you book ahead of time? T.i.a

We have also used Peat Taylor Tours multiple times on both cruises and resorts. Both Peat and "Repeat" are great guides. You will want to book in advance.

None are 'magnetic.' Some are metal and a magnet may stick to it. Some are wood and a magnet would not stick. The door frames are metal and most of the cabin walls are metal.

We've used Ricardo with libertytoursjamaica.com twice for our excursions and highly recommend them. They get great reviews on Trip Advisor - that's how we found them. They will customize your tour to include whatever you want. The Blue Hole was beautiful!
