Rare Azulann Posted February 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2018 We will be ont he Viking Sea with a port of call in early April. Is there only one pier for ships? We have a morning ship tour, but in afternoon would like to do some exploring on our own. Can one walk or taxi or shuttle into town? Ship leaves at 6pm. Thejuggler Posted February 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Just one pier, but its long and most of it is along a sea wall, so the walk into town can be some distance. Its easily identified on Google maps or “whats in port” website. However some ships do dock landside and once off ship its a 10 minute walk into Funchal. There are taxis available. To the centre should be no more than €5.

LocoLoco1 Posted February 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Walking 3/4 mile is possible, but it's a quirky road/sidewalk from Pier to town. If a 'shuttle bus' is offered take it. Taxi ride out to a popular Ocean Cliff overlook is worth it.
