Visa Wants U.S. Cards to Catch Up With the World

There has been much discussion here and on other forums about the chip & pin cards issued by Euro banks and required at many locations throughout the Euro zone. It appears VISA is finally ready to move forward in the US with chipped cards according the this article in the NY Times.

 

It's about time...

I had no idea that chipped cards were not generally available in the US. I have had one for a few years now. That would be a real problem for US tourists where they are the norm or even required.

It was a big problem for me several years ago in Germany dealing with an unmanned gas pump that wouldn't take my card very early in the morning, and others have reported problems with ticket machines in train stations, parking garages, etc.
