Orch at Sea Posted October 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2017 We have never been to this region before, & really want to go to a Mayan site. We would like to see the "Classic" pyramid shape temples (Hope that makes sense). Are we best going to Ichkabal, Kohunlich or Chacchoben ? Many thanks. bUU Posted October 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) I asked a similar question (just about Chacchoben or Kohunlich) back in March, and the question has been asked periodically for many years: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2471546 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2327808 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2070774 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1498574 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1479922 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1344373 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1241381 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1117196 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=877356 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=586011 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=467866 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=452664 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=440628 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=329661 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=173494 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=66672 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=55045 In the end, we decided to book Chacchoben. We decided that Kohunlich was simply too far to make the excursion as worthwhile as Chacchoben. Edited October 9, 2017 by bUU

rmf11699 Posted October 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 9, 2017 You might have better luck researching or posting in the Costa Maya Port of Call section of CC. The link is below. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
jas283a Posted October 10, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2017 It was great and didn't take up your whole day. You get a few "classic" pyramids you get to see. And do it through Native Choice, best tour guides EVER! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

ozscotart Posted October 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 10, 2017 We haven’t been to the other two sites mentioned above, but we have been to Chacchoben and a few other Mayan sites. It is an easy drive from Costa Maya, we did a ships tour, not NCL, the tour was excellent, the site accessible and interesting though not large. The jungle is very near and there were a lot of howler monkeys in the trees nearby. You can climb the pyramid, I didn’t due to mobility issues but DH did. There are small shops and clean loos at the site. We thought it a good easy excursion. With a good guide it would be an easy intro to Mayan culture.
