free upgrade to HC accessible for son

Recommended Posts

we were given an upgrade to the new handicapped accessible grand suite 6182 on carnival legend!! I wrote in to guestacces services and told them we had been told there were no balcony hc accessible rooms on this ship and they came back offering us this suite at no charge as a one time favor! it will be really nice to have with zack with the bars to hang on to and room for the wheelchair not having to trip over it all the time! plus save our backs from all the lifting and bending!

i was going to tough it out in the reg balcony if i had to just for zack to have his balcony! he loves it so much! i want him to have them on every cruise we have no idea how many more he will get to have! He has a rare chromosome disorder (trisomy 4p monosomy 13) we were told he wouldnt live to be a year old and would be a vegetable all his life and he is about to be 18 in july and is very very active and smart!

I am soo excited he is going to love the huge balcony his favorite place to be on a cruise!

Wow, that is amazing for you! :D I can't believe that Legend has no HCA balcony rooms. What are they thinking? We saw a HCA inside room on the Triumph and decided it was not something we could handle. Way too small for the 4 of us.

I havnet told him he doesnt really understand as far as telling him now so it will be a surprise to him when we get to the room because he will see all those windows and how big it is and will be sooo excited. Especially when he sees that huge balcony. His favorite thing is the balcony he would sit there the whole cruise if we let him.:D

Exactly what you said about Only God knows how long we have our children and also he chooses special parents for those special children too.

Thanks and I sure hope we have an excellent time! :D

What fantastic news!!! Normally you never hear about this kind of thing but WOW what an upgrade!

Barb, the Legend does have HC accessible balcony cabins, I think Terri (or Dennis?) meant that they were told none were available, that is, they were all booked up. And at only 139 days out, that's very likely.

CONGRATULATIONS on the upgrade guys! Hope you and Zack have an awesome time!!

OK, that makes more sense. Glad there are balcony HCA cabins available. We will be on the Legend after Thanksgiving and have a regular balcony booked. Don't really want a HCA cabin, we were fine on the Triumph regular cabin.

Actually we were told when we originally booked last October that there were no HCA balcony cabins on this ship. Not just that they were not available but there wanst any.

So we booked a regular cabin and were going to just tough it out but when I wrote in to the guestaccess services they told me there were hca balcony cabins and then called and gave us that one as a one time courtesy since we had been given bad information.

Thanks for the congrats Zack is going to love it and we will definately have an awesome time anytime on a cruise shiip is awesome in my book. :D

Not true at all, there have been accessible balconies on Legend for a long time! Only a few, but they are there. They are: 7260, 7303, 8234, 8239.

And now we know that 6182 is also accessible, so they have done some upgrades!

Here's the accessibility deck plans. They're now impossible to find on the Carnival site:

Yes now we know that but that is what we were told so that is what caused all this confusion.

Now we will see how HCA Cabin 6182 is and I will take lots of pictures to post so everyone can see this new HCA cabin.

Terri, that is great news. I'm sure your Zack will love it.

We are taking our Zach on the Carnival Splendor for the second time next month.

Our problem is the limited availability of HCA cabins on the West Coast that accommodate 3 people.

The Carnival Splendor has 3 HCA cabins to my knowledge that do allow 3:

1. Suite 7226, which always goes fast

2. Cabin 1002, forward facing on Spa Deck with a big window

3. Cabin 1001, same as 1002, but with an automatic door

I hope some of your luck rubs off on us and one day we will get Suite 7226.

Brian

Does anyone know of a link for the Magic?

Is it configured identical to the Dream for accessible cabins?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe it is the same - all ships within a class are typically the same, and Dream and Magic are the same class. I haven't been able to find an accessibility plan for the Magic. There's no date on the Dream plan, but it's quite likely it was published before Magic was built, and it may be updated in the future. I would say to use the Dream deck plan for your planning purposes but call and confirm with Carnival.
