Was Pacific Pearl late leaving?

Recommended Posts

Clicked on the cams this morning and saw Pacific Pearl leaving Sydney Harbour.

Usually the ships coming in that early in the morning.

She is only on a short 3 day cruise I think .

Did she overnight at the dock?

She was due to sail out yesterday at 4pm.

they were having trouble with sinking the ships generators together, from what i have been told.

This is Australia we're talking about. Heaven forbid they think they're in Italy on the Concordia.

Or maybe you meant "synchronizing"

cruise director Zoltina said this on Facebook

After a problem with a compass last night, we are moving! Life is good again on the Pacific Pearl :)

thats very interesting that could leave the dock with out checking that all compaas navagtional instruments were working at the time. one the major checks that are done before leaveing the dock.

Still, when you pay for a cruise, shouldn't you expect a 'cruise', not a 'park'? ... I have a problem with P&O selling these short trips as a cruise, when it isn't really ...

If they are selling an onboard experience (as opposed to a cruise), then they could just stay tied up at the dock couldn't they?

Just a guess, but maybe the compass got stuck? There is no way to check it without pointing the whole ship in another direction. It's kind of like trying to figure out if the speedometer in your car works without moving it. ;-)

I totally agree. This seems to be the norm.Make a trip down the coast to Jervis Bay,park there and a quick trip back to Sydney. They must save a fortune in fuel costs. No wonder P&O push these short trips so much.

I suspect they need to cruise away to allow the casino to open.

Re just 'parking' at a wharf. That costs heaps, so what they are doing seems to me to be the cheapest way out.

Very true but going to Jervis Bay and sitting there is hardly a cruise. The way they promote it in their blurbs is that the ships does a big loop. Now that would be a lot more expensive than what is happening currently.I just think they should be a little more honest (like everyone else that advertises ). :p

Oh, I agree - I was just stating what I think is the reason they are doing it. I guess they should advertise it as a cruise to Jervis Bay and back. (No doubt, if they do cruise for the whole time, they would put the fares up.)

If it doesnt leave coastal waters , is the casino closed ?

It opens after it sails of out Sydney Heads :D

I've done two of these 3 nighters. Once we didn't leave the dock until the next morning due to high seas. The casino didn't open that night and there was an all out ship mutiny. Both shorties went straight to Jervis Bay. On the rough seas cruised most people were happy about that LOL

i agree .i have been saying that for yonks....its a rip off for what a lot think is a way to guage if they like cruising....what p.....s me off more if you work out the cost on a per night basis its expensive.Great way for P&O to get a bit extra money and save a truckload on fuel costs.....sneaky ...you be the judge.

I don't think it's any more sneaky than most businesses these days - unfortunately it's become a fact of life. Anyone who does their homework knows this is what they do. The Qld home-porters go to Hervey Bay. (They do have to cruise to get there and back. :D :D :D)

some how a cruise ship will not fit in Hervey, the cloest that size ship can get to Hervey is about 50km east to nrth east of fraser island.

Hervey Bay is not deep and there not A shipping channel, one would have to be a very very great captian to get a cruise ship or any ship in throught the wide bay bar, same at the other end not alot of depth either.

We cruised the northern end of Fraser Island when Norwegian Star was operating. Came in quite close to it as well.
