Kiwi Kruzer Posted May 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2012 Clicked on the cams this morning and saw Pacific Pearl leaving Sydney Harbour. Usually the ships coming in that early in the morning. She is only on a short 3 day cruise I think . Did she overnight at the dock? She was due to sail out yesterday at 4pm. local time 1 June 6.23am position at 6.40am
Sandielle Posted May 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2012 Yes David - as far as I've read, she had a compass or electrical problem. This is what she did in the afternoon..........Apparently she left the berth and went back in.
thied Posted May 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2012 they were having trouble with sinking the ships generators together, from what i have been told.

Heaven forbid they think they're in Italy on the Concordia. Or maybe you meant "synchronizing"
Kiwi Kruzer Posted June 1, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted June 1, 2012 Looks like they are tucked into the calm waters of Jervis Bay. Do they go ashore on these short cruises or just stay and enjoy all the amenities on board the ship?

ceejay3377 Posted June 1, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 1, 2012 Still, when you pay for a cruise, shouldn't you expect a 'cruise', not a 'park'? ... I have a problem with P&O selling these short trips as a cruise, when it isn't really ... If they are selling an onboard experience (as opposed to a cruise), then they could just stay tied up at the dock couldn't they?

Just a guess, but maybe the compass got stuck? There is no way to check it without pointing the whole ship in another direction. It's kind of like trying to figure out if the speedometer in your car works without moving it. ;-)

I totally agree. This seems to be the norm.Make a trip down the coast to Jervis Bay,park there and a quick trip back to Sydney. They must save a fortune in fuel costs. No wonder P&O push these short trips so much. Very true but going to Jervis Bay and sitting there is hardly a cruise. The way they promote it in their blurbs is that the ships does a big loop. Now that would be a lot more expensive than what is happening currently.I just think they should be a little more honest (like everyone else that advertises ). :p

I guess they should advertise it as a cruise to Jervis Bay and back. (No doubt, if they do cruise for the whole time, they would put the fares up.) Debsta Posted June 2, 2012 #19 Share Posted June 2, 2012 If it doesnt leave coastal waters , is the casino closed ? It opens after it sails of out Sydney Heads :D I've done two of these 3 nighters. Once we didn't leave the dock until the next morning due to high seas. The casino didn't open that night and there was an all out ship mutiny. Both shorties went straight to Jervis Bay. On the rough seas cruised most people were happy about that LOL

Col I don't think it's any more sneaky than most businesses these days - unfortunately it's become a fact of life. Anyone who does their homework knows this is what they do. The Qld home-porters go to Hervey Bay. (They do have to cruise to get there and back. :D :D :D)

Hervey Bay is not deep and there not A shipping channel, one would have to be a very very great captian to get a cruise ship or any ship in throught the wide bay bar, same at the other end not alot of depth either.
