changing money in Myanma

That is correct they have to be new bills and also when changing that a bank you have to show your passport Cannot recall if there was anything at the port You are talking about Yangon port? We were in Myanmar in October and they would not accept damp money Hope this helps

My wife and I took a river cruise and some extra time in Myanmar. Nearly everywhere a tourist/shore excursion is likely to go takes and prefer USD.

 

They are very fussy and the bills must be PRISTINE. No tears, marks, wrinkles, folds, etc.

 

My wife and I "laundered" our money, including ironing & spray starch, and still had a few refused.

 

Most banks no longer have "new" money except around Christmas for gifts, so get some new, crispy bills now...

You can also call your bank and order some new money We do that all the time Have been to Myanmar 4 times and not around Christmas when they have it around Might take a couple of days Ours was refused being damp being in the moneybelt due to sweating
