karenbeanpole Posted October 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2018 Does anyone know if there are taxis or tours available once we arrive at the port? We are interested in going to Óbidos and other villages. It’s quite expensive with private tours at the moment as there are only 4 of us . Rare dronnygirl Posted October 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2018 As we left the ship there were taxis and tuktuk waiting to take trips. It was very hot and we decided to take a tuktuk! We were glad we did as the sides were open and we got a breeze. Should have been 2 hours but he did not rush and we actually had 2 and half hours. We were able to go through the narrow streets and out to Belem which was lovely
karenbeanpole Posted October 8, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted October 8, 2018 Thank you for that information Do you know if the taxis offered tours further afield? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Hlitner Posted October 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2018 Lisbon taxis will do just about anything you want as long as you are willing to pay their price. But be aware that a majority of drivers either do not speak English or speak very little English. So if you want to hire a taxi for a tour you might try to seek out a driver that can handle your language. Lisbon also has excellent public transportation which is a much lower cost then using taxis. There is the usual Hop On Hop Off Bus option, but the Tram #28 is also a terrific option as its much cheaper and runs through many of the most popular tourist areas. If you want to go out of the city to places like Sintra, Cascais, or Esteril there are excellent train options (much cheaper then tours). karenbeanpole Posted October 8, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted October 8, 2018 We were thinking of Obidos, Bathala and Nazaré Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Hlitner Posted October 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2018 We were thinking of Obidos, Bathala and Nazaré Sent from my iPhone using Forums We stopped in Obidos one afternoon when we had a rental car. You are talking about a drive that would be in excess of 200 miles (round trip). A taxi will likely charge you hundreds of Euros because you would need it for most of the day. Have you considered just renting a car and driving yourselves? Its pretty easy with GPS and will save you hundreds of dollars. Since we drove up there on a long port day our time was limited, but the region looked worthy of a multi-day future visit when we are driving through Portugal. This is not a day trip we would recommend for a first time visitor to Lisbon since there is so much to see and do in and around Lisbon. But its sure a great option for those who have had their fill of Lisbon. Hank
karenbeanpole Posted October 8, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted October 8, 2018 Thanks Hank We’ve not really considered car rental as it’s just too complicated to collect the car and try to navigate ourselves The private tours have quoted us between 290-350 euros for the trip Now considering staying in Lisbon We’ve been to Lisbon before but I’m sure there’s plenty to do still Sent from my iPhone using Forums
