luv2cruise123 Posted November 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2004 I have read and read and read about what to do in the canal. We will be doing a PARITAL transit into Gatun Lake and then to Cristobal pier. Will we MISS going through the locks if we take the domed or regular train ocean to ocean excursion and/or the canal by ferry excursion? Should we just stay on the ship? Really want to do a full transit either by train or ferry, but don't want to miss going through whatever locks we WILL go through on the partial transit. This may sound like a dumb question, but I am a first timer canal cruiser and have only become more confused after reading so many posts! I also need to know NOW as the online deadline for booking for our 11/25 trip is tomorrow - Monday! Any and all help would be MOST appreciated! Nitemare Posted November 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2004 The ship goes through one set of locks, to Gatun Lake, where your excursions start (after tendering to shore). The train goes on the land NEAR the other two sets of locks. The Ocean to Ocean ferry goes THROUGH the other two sets of locks (so you've done a Full Transit), and then you take a bus back to the cruiseship. Hope this helps! Nitemare Posted November 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2004 The Ocean to Ocean ferry trip is awesome. Scroll back a couple of pages here and you'll see lots of great reports on it.
