language lover Posted August 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2014 We are cruising from Amsterdam to Basel on 9/13 - the brochure says - casual dress, dinners are business casual and the Captain's dinner is dressy but not formal. Does my husband need to bring a blazer - how dressy is dressy?
rjscott Posted September 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2014 You might want to ask this on the River Cruises board, but, having been on 3 Viking river cruises, I can tell you my experience on those. The Captain's dinner, which is usually the next-to-last or last night, is the night most people dress up, if at all. Only a handful of men wear sport coats ( my husband did the 1st two cruises, but they were during cooler weather). Maybe 1/2 to 1/3 wear ties with a dress shirt. The rest wear a dress shirt and nice slacks. Women generally wear a nice dressy top or blouse and slacks, although a few may wear a dress. On our June cruise, several wore maxi dresses. Nice, as they are a knit material and don't wrinkle or take up much space. Hope this helps! Becki
