JLC@SD Posted October 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2005 In 1990, we sailed on the Golden Odyssey, the old Royal Cruise Lines' intimate 400 passenger ship. The last I heard she was called the Omar II. Does anyone know where she is now?
dougnewmanatsea Posted October 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2005 The pretty little GOLDEN ODYSSEY is now called MACAU SUCCESS, and (predictably) operates short gambling cruises from Macau. She is still at least partly owned by Stanley Ho, who is behind the Hong Kong company that owned her when she was OMAR II. Nice photos of her inside and out can be seen here. She appears to be in good condition though most of her original, very stylish decor is gone.
Druke I Posted October 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 18, 2005 Lovely ship she was. We had a pretty rough ride on her, 11-86, trying to outrun the back end of a typhoon, between Hong Kong and the Phillipines. We had green water over the bow, screws out of the water, and inclinometer pegged several times. Many passengers and much of the crew were sick on that trip. She was compact, but quite nice, and we miss the old Royal Cruise Line, which was a class act.
