Review of our pre-cruise hotel stay in Galveston

Actually, we didn't stay right in Galveston but just a quick drive down from it in a little city named Webster. Galveston is crowded, the hotels and restaurants are pricey, and some areas are not safe. We live in Texas and know the area well, so we decided to stay in a little town just a short drive from Galveston where the prices are much better and the community is a little more upscale. Webster is a small town near Nasa. We stayed at a Super 8 there that was pretty new, clean, had large rooms, and a pretty decent free breakfast. The breakfast buffet had hot waffles, muffins, danishes, bagels, juice, milk, cereal, hot chocolate, hot tea and hot coffee. The rooms even had fridges and microwaves. And there were plenty of nice restaurants within a five minute drive such as Carraba's, Zio's, and Olive Gardens. There is also a nice big mall down the road on the main highway. I know this isn't a big fancy hotel chain, but we weren't looking to buy the place, just stay in a clean reasonably priced hotel in a nice area of town.

When we looked at staying in Galveston everything cost so much more and anything cheap looked seedy. This hotel is just a few years old and it's neat as a pin. It cost us about $60 a night for a room with two beds. And the two beds aren't double beds but queen sized beds which is a big deal to us since we are a family of four sharing two beds. It's only about a 30 minute drive from this hotel to the cruise pier in Galveston and we really liked the area of town we were in. There are 2 Super 8's in the area, but this one is on Nasa road, so pick that one if you're booking it on the internet. The other Super 8 looks a little older in the pictures and is not in the nice area of town like this one is.:)

Good choice! There are so many places like Webster for people to stay pre or post-cruise, but I know it's hard to know of them if you don't live here. The Webster/Clear Lake City area is awesome -- you've got NASA, Space Center Houston (we would be there every day if my 9yo son had his way,) Baybrook Mall, and every restaurant you can think of.

Other places to consider just up the highway from Galveston would be Kemah, Dickinson, Texas City (pretty industrial, but fine if you're just looking to rest your weary head,) and League City. Kemah is my favorite place down here -- the Kemah Boardwalk is just an all-around great time, every time.

Glad you enjoyed your stay in Webster! :)

from Bush Airport to Webster and then from Webster to Galveston? We are likely going to arrive around midnight the night before our cruise this spring, just need someplace to sleep seven hours or so before continuing on to Galveston to board the ship -- this sounds like our kind of thing, also possibly the same on the way back, as we plan to stay one night post-cruise and NASA is high on our list of places to visit -- thanks for info, never been to Texas aside from changing planes once in Dallas! -- TR
