Cayman snorkeling---"on your own"

Ten years ago when we were in Cayman, we booked a snorkeling excursion through the ship. It was our first snorkeling experience, and best so far (we've also snorkeled in the Eastern in various ports). Cheeseburger Reef sounds familiar, but on that excursion, we were taken to the snorkeling area by boat, and it appears from what I've read that CR is near shore, so I'm not really sure if that's where we snorkeled or not. We'd like to snorkel without a tour group this time, so is Cheeseburger Reef worth a try? Or are there recommendations for any other "on your own" snorkeling adventures in Cayman?

The use for snorkeling is free, it's only two blocks from the tender dock, and there are LOTS of fish! You'll find snorkel/dive gear as well as lockers for rent.

Thanks for the information on snorkeling. Sounds like a good plan. We'll have to check it out in July.
