CP stateroom guarantee. What's up w/this?

Our ta booked our 2 stateroom called "guarentee pricing". Right now we are on Deck 5. When I called Princess to explain.
Princess: "You can't go any lower, ha, but you could get moved up a deck or 3. Your cabin assignment won't be locked in till 5 days before sailing" (June 26-July 3 Caribbean Princess)
I've never sailed with this status before and we paid decent bucks for the 4 of us.
Can anyone let me know what we're in for?

thanks!

What category did your TA guarantee? We booked a few weeks ago for the 5/8 Caribbean cruise and our TA guaranteed a J category. We ended up with an F category. We started out with a high inside and ended up with a lower outside with obstructed view. I'm glad to hear I'm not locked into this category until 5 days before the cruise. Who knows? They say on these boards that the computer assigns staterooms. I just don't know for sure to be honest.

I recently had the choice (same price) of a high inside or a lower level cabin with a big window. For me, it made much more sense to be up higher as I spend a lot of time on the pool deck, at the food areas, hot tub and with the kids going back and forth to their activites (on the lido deck).
However, on the lower deck it is usually less walking and easier getting on and off at ports.
There are pluses and minuses to both- but I would say that it is SUBJECTIVE. Think about where you would spend your time. If I forget the sunscreen, it could take 5-10 minutes each way to get to your cabin and back.
If you are traveling at a busy time you may want to just price out actual cabin categories. While you may not be locked in, if the cruise is well booked you may have no choices to move.
Its really up to you but it sounds like you are getting more sarcasm than advice from your TA.

We figured we'd spend the same money going to Disneyworld or LA and thought hey, let's try to book under so-many grand and get on a cruise.

That's how our TA booked us "guarantee".
I detected a slightly snobbish attitude by the Princess rep (whom I called because our TA had left on vacation), sort of like we're 4th class citizens.
I am excited about cruising Princess although her size overwelms me!!

See Ya:
If you have 4 in a cabin, you did not book a Guarantee M because for 4 pax, you must have a cabin assignment to make sure there are 4 beds in that cabin. The only thing that can be booked as a guarantee is a double. I would straigten this out with my t.a. Did she send you any confirmation - e-mail or snail mail? She should send you an e-mail confirmation today.
I'm so sorry, I just went back and read your message again. You have 2 cabins. Be sure to call Princess and ask if these bookings are cross-referenced. If they are not, your t.a. will have to call and ask that this be done. If you booked them together, the Princess res agent will normally do this. How old are the children? They should also add: ESC code as this means that you are escorting the other cabin and the System will try to keep the cabins close to one another. There aren't too many Category M, therefore you have a good chance of an upgrade.
