Taxi from port to Akumal...YalKu Lagoon

We're headed to Calica in a few weeks. Last trip we did the edventure thing and had a great time. This trip, we just want to snorkel at YalKu for a while which make the edventure trip a little pricey. Has anyone taken a taxi from the port to YalKu lately? Did you negotiate with a driver to stay with you for the day? What was the cost?

Haven't been to Calica port in a while, but here is some recent taxi prices for the general area (scroll down) starting out from PDC, which should give you a ballpark price to negotiate from the pier. Worst case if the Calica taxis are steeply priced is you could group cab into PDC then catch a cab from there.

prices are in pesos, currently roughly 13 to 1 conversion

The Edventure prices sound pretty good compared to the taxi fares. We did Yal Ku a couple of years ago. We grabbed a cab from Calica to Yal Ku for $30. When we were ready to go to PDC there weren't any cabs at the facility so we walked out to the highway and grabbed a collectivo. I think that it was $3 @ to go all the way to 5th Avenue in PDC. This is a neat way to travel. The van was full of locals who were very friendly and were happy to make room for us.

Yal Ku was gorgeous and well worth the trip but the water was a little cool. Akumal is near if you want a chance to see some turtles.

Just wanted to add for others that it is a signicant walk from Yal Ku to the main highway (307) where the colectivos are found.

It is a short, relatively easy walk from Hwy 307 to Akumal bay itself for excellent snorkeling, but Yal Ku is quite a ways up the beach road. Yal Ku is walkable though if you're used to heat/humidity and walking for exercise.
