Snorkeling options in Costa Maya?

I searched the board back +6 months, and would love to hear from any recent visitors to C-M who went snorkeling. Did you go thru the ship, or on your own? If the ship, how satisfied were you? If on your own, did you book beforehand, did you have your own equipment or was it provided?

 

I would love to just "Wing it" but would really want to see the reef here and would be dissapointed if things didn't work out. We will be there in about three weeks!
