Fort James Beach

We will be sailing on the Summit in February and are wondering whether Fort James Beach is within walking distance from the pier or is there public transportation?

It is the closet beach to the pier and you could walk to it but you are on vacation and it is a very short taxi ride to get your toes in the sand. The walk on the beach is a much nicer walk than the walk from the busy, crowded downtown area.

Has anyone been to Ft. James beach recently? How is swimming over there? Are there any changing / restroom facilities at Millers by the sea or elsewhere close by?

We were at Miller's by the Sea in Feb 2011 (before and after a tour with Segway of Antigua.) There is a washroom there that can be used as a change room.

 

The beach was beautiful the water was warm. I took some photos of the beach--see and the next 3 photos for shots of the beach.

 

Note that if you are using Google Maps to plan your vacation, it sometimes shows the location of Miller's by the Sea incorrectly as being right at Fort James. It is actually about half a mile further north along the coast from Fort James, at the north end of a long stretch of sandy beach.
