PMO Posted December 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2009 We are traveling to Spain and other countries in July 2010 and were told that thieves are really prevalent in these areas. We were wondering if the neck pouch or the waist belt that you wear inside are better? We have never traveled abroad and are very excited but would also like to be safe with our belongings so any other suggestions would be helpful. Protecting your valuables in Europe is similar to big US cities. You need to be alert to your surroundings. We use a neck wallet for the bulk of our cash and credit cards. It is fairly easy to access when you need it. Keep some cash (euros) in your pocket for incidentals. Incidentally :), most travellers agree that using a local ATM machine is the best way to get local currency. And, fyi, Europe has more coins than the US. There are €1 and €2 coins as well as the smaller coinage that we are used to. The smallest euro paper bill that I remember was €5.
