rogerc1944 Posted January 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2010 There is disappointing news. Star Clippers announced that it is abandoning its Asia cruises after this season. Star Clipper's spring 2010 repositioning voyage from Phuket to Athens will now operate in two legs, one from Phuket to Goa and a second from Safaga, Egypt to Athens. The ship will be transiting the danger zone of the Gulf of Aden without passengers to avoid potential pirate attacks. We were on the last crossing and found it more of an adventure than a fear. Of course there were a couple of days when we wondered whether we would find out more than we wished about pirates. All's well that ends well but we really enjoyed the complete crossing. We would have done it all again.
budaman Posted January 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2010 Saw that earlier.....we were trying to decide between Thailand & the new Costa Rica itinerary and thankfully decided on Costa Rica. Made the reservations yesterday for the Jan.9, 2011 voyage. Hopefully, they will eventually get the pirate situation under control & resume the trips again in the future. The new Caribbean itinerary looks interesting also! Mike
muskatnuss Posted January 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2010 Thanks for the information. Just got back from FP and wanted to go to Thailand and do the Clipper - but I guess we will wait for the Caribbean.
bajaed69 Posted January 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2010 We were on the 2008 fall cruise from Athens and got off in Goa for 5 weeks of India. We had an US Navy escort to Oman. It was quite an adventure enjoyed by all. We are on the 34 day trip from Tahiti to Panama in Feb this year.;) Ed/Sue
