gehrandt Posted January 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Has anyone stayed at the Gild Hall Hotel in the Financial district of NY? Was told it is about a 5 minute taxi ride to the pier. We don't travel until Oct 22 - so have reserved room(s) for all of us and in the meantime will play with Priceline/Hotwire to see if I can manage to save money. Rather spend it on board.:)
138east Posted January 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I'm seeing this hotel at $346 for 10/22. Seems a bit pricey. What are your objectives while you are in NY? 5 minutes to the pier is optimistic. Yes, you're in the heart of downtown NY (probably 15 minutes from the pier), but why do you want to be there of all places? Have you ever been to NY before? gehrandt Posted January 12, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 12, 2010 We have a superior King (2 rooms) reserved at $269 + tax each - on hotel site they were showing the same room at about $500 more per room. We'll all be getting in late so almost no time to sightsee and understand Financial Dist. least expensive area - and closest to Red Hook. One group coming into LGA and other (us) into JFK so doesn't make sense to stay at airport area since we want to get together. Still trying for lower prices on 4/5 star (celebrating anniversary). Rare Got2Cruise Posted January 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2010 There is no reason why the LGA group can't take a cab to a JFK hotel. It is about a ten minute cab ride. Much cheaper than taking the cab from JFK and LGA into downtown Manhattan. If the sole purpose is to be together and not sight see, then this would be the cheapest way. Then you can take a car service or cab to the brooklyn pier. We have a superior King (2 rooms) reserved at $269 + tax each - on hotel site they were showing the same room at about $500 more per room. 138east Posted January 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2010 OK - so you have a good plan. Actually, the downtown hotels tend to be more expensive. You've made a reservation in a 4* hotel - it actually seems like a reasonable deal. Sightseeing is not a priority. You're celebrating. Would you consider a nonrefundable room on Hotwire or Priceline? Better bidding is showing the following 4* hotels in downtown for Hotwire - Gild Hall, Embassy Suites, Milennium Hilton, SoHo Grand, and Tribeca Grand. Of course there are no guarantees as to what hotel you will get, but you won't go wrong with a 4* in NY. It's way too early for a deal for Oct 22 so you will just have to keep checking.
