Stockholm dinner cruises

Any recommendations on Stockholm dinner cruises?

Not sure if I re-call seeing any dinner cruises being offered or boats set-up for such an operation. We've seen that in Paris. My bias or worry is that such boats that offer dinner cruises do not often have food that is really good or great. We did the boat tour around Stockholm that we caught right nearby to the Royal Palace. That was nice and gave lots food views in Stockholm.

For dining, we did the GRAND HOTEL SMORGASBORD with a window table. You can contact them at:

verandan@grandhotel.se

The price for the smörgåsbord was 410 kronor in August 2008. Not cheap, but nothing good or nice in Stockholm is low in price. It was a very special dining experience at this hotel at the end of our cruise and Europe trip with friends from California we met on the Baltics cruise. We stayed an extra night in Stockholm at the end of our cruise.

There are a number of dining places in and near the main square in Gamla Stan. Below are a few pictures from the water tour around Stockholm's islands, etc.

Zagat Says: “For a true Grand Hôtel experience”, supporters suggest you “snag a table with” a “to-die-for view” of “the Royal Palace, the parliament building” “and the harbor” at this Swedish-International in Norrmalm; “the service is excellent”, and “they always have” a “wonderful smörgåsbord” “filled with” so many “tempting foods” that “it’s easy to fill yourself to bursting” – though those with less voracious appetites aver there’s “nothing wrong with their à la carte menu” of “delicious, high-quality food”, either. This hotel where the Nobel Prize winner stay for the ceremonies was pened in 1874. Hotel website: http://www.grandhotel.se

Per Zagat, among their top rated places in Stockholm are:

Paul & Norbert

Strandvägen 9, 08-663-8183

Zagat Rating: 28, 23, 25, E

“Truly” a “favorite”, this “dining delight” in Östermalm is rated No. 1 for Food in Stockholm on the strength of its “superb” French-Swedish cuisine created by “excellent chef” Norbert Lang; you’ll also “enjoy wonderful service” from an “exceptional” staff, a “nice atmosphere” and a “great wine selection”, making it a “satisfying” “place for a private, romantic” “meal of a lifetime” that will “never be forgotten” – “but bring a lot of krona because you’ll need them”; N.B. if you’d like an interactive evening, you can be a cook for the night and prepare your own meal alongside Lang.

Outdoor seating, lunch, dinner. Very high marks from Eyewitness.

Eriks Bakficka

Fredrikshovsgatan 4, 08-660-1599

Zagat Rating: 25, 17, 24, E

“Owned by one of Sweden’s best chefs”, Erik Lallerstedt, “this charming bistro” is “a favorite haunt of locals” in the “expensive residential quarter” of Östermalm – indeed, the “well-heeled” guests seem to “all know each other” as they gather within its “more formal dining room” or “cozier bar section” to enjoy “fine” Swedish-International cuisine; true, it’s “a little pricey”, but insiders insist it offers “excellent value.”

Outdoor seating, lunch, dinner. Just east of Grand Hotel. Closed Sundays. Very good marks from Eyewitness.

Den Gyldene Freden

Österlånggatan 51, Stockholm, Sweden 10317, Phone: 08-249-760

Food: 22 (out of 30); Setting: 24, Service: 23; pricing: Expensive

“Beautiful old-world surroundings” dating from the 18th century define this “charming, historic” Gamla Stan “favorite” “in a cellar in the Old Town”; almost “everyone loves this place” for its combination of “cozy” ambiance, traditional local dishes (plus some International offerings) and “efficient service”, even if some say it’s “too bad” it’s “getting a little staid” and “somewhat touristy” of late; P.S. “the Swedish Academy dines there on Thursdays.”

Dinner only, inside only

Leijontornet

Victory Hotel, Lilla Nygatan 5, Phone: 08-5064-0080

Food: 24; Setting: 27; Service: 23; Pricing: VE

An “authentic medieval room” in an “Old Town cellar” is the “wonderful setting” of this “great place to eat” in Gamla Stan’s “small, high-class” Victory Hotel (“don’t just eat at the restaurant – stay at the hotel too”); as if the “fabulous” environment weren’t enough, you can also expect “splendid art from the kitchen” in the form of “superb” Scandinavian cuisine, served by a “staff that tries hard to please”; no wonder most predict you’ll “enjoy the experience.”

Outdoor seating and garden; breakfast, lunch, dinner. Eyewitness Guide: Desserts are a masterpiece!

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Thanks for the detrailed response. The smorgasbord at the Grand looks to be a suit and tie affair (from their pics). Is this the case?

Went back and checked my photos from our visit there. I was wearing a yellow v-neck sweater and a blue button-down shirt. It's certainly not a shorts and tee shirt place. But, with or without a sport coat will be fine. I felt very comfortable in what I was wearing. It is not as fancy of a hotel or dining room as the pictures on their website make it seem. Nor, as the "GRAND" name would imply. The buffet seating is in a glassed room that looks out onto the harbor and street. I would not call it a casual room, but it is far from formal or only a suit and tie place.
