Can any one tell me if it is worth going shopping in Antigua

-or into the town from the cruise ship?

If you like small, quaint island Museums

it may be worth the journey about 3 blocks inland to get to the Museum at St.Johns.

We did it. It's good for about 45 mins.

and will give some background info about the island, its ppl and the culture per se.

Shopping?

ANU-349.jpg

-right at the base of the two cruise-ship piers, and the short distance between those piers.

The Linen Shop was where we bought two great-quality bath towels

and a mattress-pad(of all things!) -it's not far away,at all.

Not much of a town, to be honest.

The good stuff at Antigua is its beaches

-and down South at English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard

Save your shopping urges and $$$ for St.Maarten! ;)

Last March, my DH and I decided to make Antigua a shopping day. Boy, were we disappointed. I did not like ST Johns at all. We are going back next month, but I guarantee you, we WILL NOT spend our time in ST Johns. I found the people to be very rude and unfriendly. We got off the ship between 9:30 and 10:00 and were back on before 11 am.

If the weather's good, your best most productive bet

is to do a half-day, Southern-half-of-the-island tour down to English Harbour/Shirley Heights/Nelson's Dockyard

see what there is to see, and be back on board for lunch by about 1 p.m. latest

Shopping in St.Johns is poor, although if you look around

there are one or two things that may catch your fancy.

Ppl in da know save their Serious Shopping (capital S's) for Sint Maarten!!

I know, Aplmac, it was a big mistake. We had things planned for every day that cruise and were just trying to do something simple. We learned our lesson.

I also need to say thank you. It was your pictures and comments that made us choose Accra Beach in Barbados. We absolutely LOVED it!!! As a matter of fact, we loved it sooooo much that we're going back there again in March. It was, by far, our favorite place for the whole cruise.

You take such awesome pictures. I know this isn't the thread to probably ask, but are you familiar with St Croix? We will be going there this March to and I can't decide what to do there.

Yes thanks so much for your great advice I also have read you in Barbados.

Which would be the best beach for 2 senior couples. We wnjoy being in the water, don´t snorkle and would like to go to the best beach. Is Sandals resort worth it? Do you recommend any other resort? Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!
