MsWitty1 Posted January 31, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2010 Looking to see if anyone had information or experience about accessible tours in PV, Mazatlan, or Cabo? Need to see if there are options for someone who has limited access. Friend is in a scooter and can get in and out, but stairs, etc. are not an option. If anyone has information or has navigated themselves, would love to know. Thanks! Angie
Splinter Posted February 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2010 You will find more information over on the Disabled Cruisers forum, but there is one company in Mazatlan and one in PV which offer private tours via lift van. There is nothing in Cabo, and it is very common that those with mobility disabilities are NOT allowed onto tenders in this port. You cannot ride on the scooter on the tender on most cruise lines, and if it is rough, as it often is in Cabo, they will not allow you to go ashore at all if you have limited mobility or need assistance to board the tender. We always take a manual wheelchair in Mexico for ports and leave the power wheelchair on the ship. There are few if any curb cuts, and most stores have 1-2 steps into them at least. It would not be safe or advisable to leave a scooter on the sidewalk when going into a shop. Most areas are cobbles or rough pavement, and a scooter can be a real problem on those. We can bump my other up a curb or as many a 3 steps to get into a shop if needed. You can also much more easily take cabs (as I assume your friend can transfer into a car) with a manual chair than with a scooter.
