MCManders99 Posted January 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2005 I will be traveling on Sun Princess May 23 and I was wondering if anyone ever went on the wilderness exploration and crab feed in Ketchikan. This excursion really interests my fiance and I was just checking for some input. Thanks
Boo's Mom Posted January 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2005 MCmanders99 ~ I did this excursion in June 2003. ..booked through Celebrity cruiseline. It was fun. We had two children with us. They take you out in a boat....and then they pull up some crab traps (I'm not sure of the official name)...and they identify what they have caught. Teach you a little about crabs, etc... All the information was documented for the Alaska Parks and Wildlife Dept...or some similar department. Some type of research project...which allows them (the excursion folks) to trap the crabs. All crabs were thrown back into the water. We saw some eagles on the way back to the "house". At the house, we had a great...all you can eat crab lunch. Yum. They even instructed us on how to eat it properly...using the claw as a fork. When we went, it was a fairly new excursion. There is a long, long stairway to walk down...to get to the house/water. I think that's about it. :)
