Balcony & Cigar

Well I must say that one of the most enjoyable cigars and ritual that I have done is this. My DW and I were both newlyweds for the 2nd time each. On the first formal night out at sea, we went to the back of the ship around midnight, when nobody was around and toasted our new life together with a nice cigar. Then the ritual part we're only doing once. We both took our old wedding bands and gave them both a hurl off the back of the ship to their salty graveyard. It was a memorable moment, one we'll never forget.

The very best cigar moment was when my best buddy & I lit up the best Cuban Cohibas, that we just bought in Grand Cayman, on the pool deck as the ship is leaving port/anchor. My wife snapped the coolest picture of us w/ the biggest smiles while puffing on the Cigars, w/ about 1" of perfect white ash showing.

A few months later, my buddy showed me the same picture, featured in the Cigar Aficionado magazine. Awsome.:D

Like many of you, one of my favorite times aboard ship is with a good cigar, a fine libation to go with it, and newly made friends. My wife and I have met many friends in a ships cigar room, some of whom we have cruised with more than once after meeting them.

Like NavyCruiser, I have had a few run ins with those who do share my love of a fine cigar. Our last cruise ship had a cigar room, and there were people that would come into the room and COMPLAIN about the smoke/smell. Unbelievable!

Unfortunately John, the world is filled with malcontents, always looking for a reason to bitch at something. Like I always say...There is always the Carnival Paradise. Like you, I also enjoy a good draw that comes from a full cigar. With my cruise quickly approaching, you can bet I will be sailing fully armed.(LOL)

Harumph!! Harumph!! Hey, I didnt get a harumph from that man...

I to will enjoy at least one cigar, per day, on our verandah, during our next cruise. Since we have an aft cabin, I doubt anyone will be bothered by the smoke. But if by chance, there is someone bothered by it? Well, they are just going to have to find a way to deal with it. I paid dearly for this spot on the ship and I intend to enjoy it to its maximum potential.

jcruise67....Fully armed. Sounds like you will be enjoying plenty of smokes on your cruise. At least you have a cruise coming up; the wife and I haven't got one on the books yet for this year. It won't be on the Paradise.

LOL, John. I won't be sailing the paradise anytime soon. (LOL) DW and I are cruise addicts, so we book two a year on the same line. We do that because its much more inexpensive to book back-to-back cruises prior to disembarking on the first one. We always place a deposit down on the second cruise while on the first one. Yes, I will be smoking lovely on our cruise April 17th.

I truly love to light up a big fat cigar while playing the tables in Las Vegas. Why can't you do the same on cruise ships' casinos?

Is it b/c of the low ceilings, poor ventilations/filtration, etc...?

I'm just surprised that a foreign flagged ship sailing in international waters won't allow cigar smoking in their casinos. That's why I take a cruise, to get away from the politically correct no smoking bars & restaurants here in my city & most others in the U.S.

Sorry, just needed to vent....

NavyCruiser: Very well put. My DH loves a good cigar also. He is not a cigarette smoker but enjoys a fine cigar when we are on vacation and at home in the summer with a good drink out on our back deck with some island music playing. I am not a smoker at all and never have been but I don't mind my DH having his moment with his cigar. He is always respectful of others when smoking his cigars and sits downwind and asks the person next to him if the smoker is bothering them. He has never had a problem yet with an irate non-smoker. Touch wood. He truly enjoys a Montecristo #4 at sail away time or some other quiet moment. Being Canadian, we can purchase Cuban cigars and my DH has purchased a number when we vacation in Cuba. This time though, flying into Ft. Lauderdale, he will not be able to bring any along but can enjoy some of the other brands instead. You are right, you just have to use common sense and be respectful of others.
