Major Sporting Events

I just realized that we will be on a cruise in the Caribbean for the first round of the NCAA basketball tourney. Does anyone know if they will have CBS on the cruise to air the games and/or is there a sports bar on the Solstice?

Last March we were on the Explorer of the Seas and they had the CBS feed on the ship, so we were able to see the games.

We were on the Mercury during the Super Bowl, enough people, including my husband spoke up and my husband spoke directly to the cruise director and it was decided to not have the evening show in the theater that particular night. They threw a great Super Bowl party there with tail gate type food and I believe the Super Bowl was broadcast through ESPN's international feed. Since that ship does not have a sports bar, they also had the same set up in the casino which had a bar, it was a fun night and Celebrity did a good job pulling it all together. The theater was more packed than any show the entire cruise so it doesn't hurt to ask.

I was on the Solistice during the first and second round of the NCAA Tourney last year and NO WHERE could I get the tourney games. I had to sign up for WI FI so I could check the scores on the computer. This year planning a cruise in May to avoid just that!

I would be really be disapointed if they do not broadcast the games. It seems to me like cruise ships should form partnerships with offshore sports books as they could make big bucks on sports gambling for major sporting events.

Hi G+M Canuck,

After yesterdays game, a sixty minute tie with the Swiss! Needing a shootout to win, with a team made up of mostly NHL players, I think you should worry about Sundays game with the USA, and not the final just yet! By the way if the USA can't do it we hope team Canada does!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Willie: The Swiss did not read the script we gave them, fortunately Crosby did remember his lines! :p Sometimes a hot goalie gets in the way of the best scorers in the world! Witness Central Red Army vs Les Canadiens back in 75 (?). If CRA had had any other goalie than Tretiak and if Dryden had put his A game on, that night would have been a massacre, much like what we are seeing in Womens Hockey at the Olympics! Give the Swiss full credit, but Hockey is taught to us from the moment of our Conception, therefor it is our Game and nobody but nobody is going to take that from us!

GO CANADA GO!

Never thought of that....offshore sports books....That would be great!

Just think of the possibilities....OTB on horses..etc.....

I just got off the Summit and saw the superbowl in the theatre, they did a great job throwing a superbowl party. Even had ice carvings in the shape of the Indy horseshoe and the New Orleans logo(sorry can't remember the exact name so won't even try).....They did pick up the ESPN int'l feed, so no comercials.....It was also avialable on TV in the rooms.

Oh Willie, don't count us Canadians down and out quite yet. Like Red Knight says we have been around many an ice arena . True Canadian hockey fans are not to worry, the men from the "great white north" will rise to the ocassion on Sunday.

Red knight, you are revealing some secrets about your age when you talk so about the great battle between Tretiak and Dryden. Those series of games in the 1970's between the USSR and Canada were truely some of the greatest moments in sports history.

Go Canada Go:)

Hi G+M Canuck & Red Knight,

Please don't get me wrong, we know you folks from the wonderful country of Canada become hockey fans in the womb. It is still true, in my mind any way, the greatest players in the world come from Canada!!!!!!!!! We thank you folks up there in the "great white north" for bringing this great sport to the rest of the world.

I grew up in New York City, and a die hard Ranger fan. I do remember that wonderful battle between Tretiak and Dryden. I also remember going to games in the old Madison Square Garden between the original six NHL teams. The Gumper was a friend of the family. So please understand when I say go USA, and if not, then Go Canada. I'm sure by the end of the day on Sunday I'll be eating crow, who knows, anyway this has really been fun talking with tou folks.

Take care Willie

I don't know for sure but when we cruised on Princess during the final four they showed the games on their outside screen. They had to have some sort of an agreement because instead of commercial breaks the announcers made special comments like, "Welcome to all the Crown cruisers from the Caribbean this evening..." It was impressive and it sure made you feel special while watching. It's something that all the lines should explore. It was even better because we're from FL and were watching the Gators go all the way. :D

Willie: If you knew the Gumper and the original 6, you must be a Scholar and a Gentleman! My Dad could on occasion get Company seats in the Holy of Holies AKA the Montrel Forum 2 rows up behind the Canadiens bench, and I can remember seeing Gump take a swat at Toe Blake in the hallway between peeriods once! So if I showed my age talking about Tretiak and Dryden, how about my saying I saw a brush cut rookie called Orr?

We are on the same cruise as you, G & M Canuk. How about this: King Clancy rented the upstairs duplex from my in-laws and sometimes baby sat my husband. My father in law worked in a clothing store opposite Maple Leaf Gardens. Be sure to ask my husband about his autograph book. He has all the greats: Tim Horton, Bert Olmstead, Bob Pulford, Frank Mahavolich, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Jean Beliveau, Bronco Horvath,Eddie Shack, Red Kelly and Punch and Bill Imlach, etc. We are true hockey fans. GO CANADA GO!!

Hey Shelley, looking forward to seeing you next week on board the Equinox. Your husband truely has a great collection of autographs. Lucky guy.

Hey Red Knight . I live in Oshawa Ont. and you will recall that Mr. Orr played his junior hockey for the Oshawa Generals. Saw some great hockey from that 15 yr old kid in those days. I myself was a few yrs younger than Bobby but my older sister went to High School at the same time as Bobby . I remember him coming to a party at our house.

Too bad his career was cut so short by injuries and bad knees.

Hi Red Knight & G + M Canuck,

All I can say is SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Red Knight I also got to see Bobby Orr at the old Boston Garden. We would take the train up to Boston when the Rangers played there.
