Felucca ride through Ramses Tours

I just booked a private tour for a small party through Ramses Tours and am considering adding a felucca ride to it. For those who included a felucca ride on your tour, did you think it was worthwhile? What did you like/dislike about it? How much time did you spent on the river?

We booked the felucca from onboard a nile cruise ship, its just a smallish sailboat and goes nowhere fast without wind...which happened to us...would be nice if you could sail and see the area....but after being on ship it seemed a little like been there, done that, sorry...it was an experience, but probably wouldn t do it again...so just weigh pros and cons, and weather, ahahaha to decide.

The interesting thing about the felucca is the ancient style of boat itself, and actually being on the Nile River you have read about all your life. Assuming you do it in Cairo, basically it just sails down the Nile a bit among the usual big city sights - hotels, restaurants, bridges, warehouses and all the rest. There is really nothing to actually see, and honestly neither the river nor the scenery is very pretty. Our ride was about an hour.

We enjoyed it, and for us it essentially filled the hour we had available until the Egyptian Museum opened. I certainly would not consider it a high priority item for a tour, though.

Check out our trip report and pictures at http://www.bully4.us/holyland2.html.

Have a GREAT cruise!

We did that recently with Ramses. We told our guide we wanted to do that and he included it in the plan. We took the felucca right down the street from the hard rock cafe where they were planning on taking us for lunch anyway. We skipped the lunch and our guide used the allocated money for lunch to pay for the felucca. Like the previous poster said, there was nothing particularly special about it, but we wanted to say we "sailed on the Nile" withouth having to go on a longer "dinner cruise"
