Shore Excursions with Norwegian Sea.

For those of you who have sailed on the NCL's Sea, would you recommend purchasing shore excursions through NCL or are there less expensive options from the locals at the piers?

We are interested in snorkeling and seeing the Mayan ruins, among other options if available.

We are leaving on the Texaribean cruise Feb 26th.

if you are interested in seeing the ruins do it either in cozumel or belize. the Sea misses Cancun too often to take a chance. you may end up not seeing them if you make plans to see them in that port.

check the different port boards for ideas of excusions.

Rather than try to save a few dollars by bypassing NCL, I booked the tour of Xuantanich (Belize) thru the tour desk. When there was a serious road accident blocking the road on the way back to the ship, those few extra dollars were well worth the peace of mind I had, knowing they would wait for me. For us actually. And despite the long bus ride, almost to the border of Guatemala, I thought the whole experience was well worth the cost.

I would recommend going through the ship if you're going to Tulum from Cozumel, also. Same sort of thing -- a ferry ride across to the mainland, bus ride to the ruins, etc. We thought there was just too much room for problems to occur, and the extra money was worth the peace of mind.

In Belize, my main concern would be the tender rides. If you're late getting back from your cruise, and miss the last tender, you'll be in trouble. I guess it all depends on the timing of the excursion and how much margin there is if problems should occur.

Ditto all of the above. I think when there is a tender, or some sort of long drive, etc. involved, the peace of mind of the ship excursion is worth a few extra bucks. One thing I really liked on NCL was one of the crew accompanies the excursions.

I totally agree with getting thru cruise line. I didn't think that way until I had actually booked thru the cruise line and was lucky I did. We were on RCCI and went to Montego Bay. Took the Dunns River Falls excursion which is quite a ways away. They had a torentall rain that day and on the way back the bus was going thru water up to its doors. There was a lot of flooding and stalled cars in the road. We ended up getting a police escort the last few miles to the ship and were the last ones back on after normal departure time. They had waited for us. That was a great lesson for me. Gary o.
