indiesmom Posted March 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We are doing a land tour and plan to visit both Valdez and Whittier. I know you can take a PWS tour from both of these towns. Is it better or more convenient to take the tour from one town over the other? Is PWS closer to one than the other? Is the water calmer leaving from one location or the other? Is the scenery better , etc.
mytime53 Posted March 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2010 10,000 sq. miles and 3,000 miles of coastline...Prince William Sound is enormous. http://www.alaska.net/~awss/pws.html Both towns are located on the Sound itself. Out of Whittier you will see glaciers almost everywhere you look. Here is a map of one cruise out of Whittier. http://www.26glaciers.com/map.htm Out of Valdez you have the opportunity to see the mighty Columbia Glacier; the map: http://www.stanstephenscruises.com/columbia-glacier-cruise.htm There are many photos of the scenery from both areas on the net. Check them out, compare cost and time, choose one, and enjoy! Personally, if difficult to choose, I would suggest that you might consider waiting until you're there at the first town...if the weather is bad, wait for the second town. Of course, that depends on whether or not you're there at a prime time when you might not be able to get on with short notice.
