DragonNC Posted April 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Does anyone know if they offer a day pass? Cost, ect..???
comeon530 Posted April 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Yes. The Reef Village at Our Lucaya offers a day pass for $20. That gives you access to their pools, beach chairs, towels and restrooms. There is a bar area if you want to buy drinks, and food nearby for purchase. We went there in November and had a great time. They have a beautiful pool. You walk outside to the towel hut to purchase the pass.
nuthut Posted April 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2010 How far from the cruise dock and what mode of transportation?
comeon530 Posted April 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2010 It is about a 15-20 minute ride from the cruise port. There are taxis readily available.
BalconyBreeze Posted April 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Just was there last week. Taxi will be 5pp and drops you off at the front of the resort. Follow the signs for the Sugar Mill Pool and you will see a towell hut. 10 pp if you just want to you the beach chairs or 20 pp if you want the pool, towells, and beach chairs. Nice resort for Freeport.
arenfroe Posted May 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2010 I was just wondering - do any of you think it is worth the $20pp to use the pool facilities? We are thinking of going to Our Lucaya and just spending the day at the beach...maybe rent a chair or two.
arenfroe Posted June 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Bump. See previous post.
comeon530 Posted June 5, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Absolutely worth it. You will spend at least half that just to rent a chair on the public beach which is right beside the chairs that come with the day pass. It's worth it to me to have bathroom facilities. There aren't any public bathrooms. They also include towels so you don't have to carry them off of the ship.
slrteach Posted June 5, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2010 How much for a child and does the pool have a slide?
comeon530 Posted June 6, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 6, 2010 Same price for a child. They get the exact 'perks' as the adults. Yes, there is a slide. Do a search for Our Lucaya Reef Village. Here is a link to the website with pics of the pool. The tower holds a small slide. http://www.ourlucaya.com/reefvillage/index.php
jnv Posted June 7, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2010 is there shopping nearby, and if so how far? also is this something we need to book ahead of time or can we for sure just take a taxi out there and there will be availability. Thank you so much for any info.
comeon530 Posted June 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted June 8, 2010 Shopping is just across the street within walking distance. It wasn't busy at all the times we were there, although we haven't been in the summer. I don't know if they sell them ahead of time. I would be very surprised if they sold out. arenfroe Posted June 15, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 15, 2010 Just got back from our cruise and we did the Our Lucaya day pass. Totally worth it! We took a cab from the Port to Port Lucaya. ($5 per person.) They drop you off right in front of the casino and all the shops are directly across the street. They directed us to the public beach, which was a bit of a walk....but not a problem for us. It was hotter than you can imagine! I would hate to think I had to spend the whole day in that heat without a break! Anyway, once we were on the beach, we wanted to rent a chair. One of the lifeguards came up to us as we put our stuff on a chair. We told him that we were interested in the day pass, and he told us to walk a little further down and ask for Dennis. We found Dennis and he directed us to the pool area at Reef Villiage. A guy named Brandon sold us our day passes and he let us have the kids at $10 each. (So that's $20 for me, $20 for my wife, and $10 each for my 13yr old and 10yr old....so $60 total.) Factor in the cab ride back to the port and we spent a total of $100, (not including lunch), for day passes AND transportation! You can't beat that! The resort is beautiful and, frankly, it is probably the only place around that is really nice. Freeport was ravaged by a hurricane several years ago and you can still see the devastation as you travel from the cruise ships to the resort. For lunch, we ate at the Prop Club at the resort. It was a nice, sit-down, air-conditioned restaurant with prices that I thought were fair. (The four of us ate a good lunch for about $55 including tip.) There is a really neat pool slide, but it is for CHILDREN ONLY! They are very strict about not letting grown-ups on the slide. My kids loved it! My wife and I just enjoyed cooling off in the pool on a brutally hot day. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. If we ever do this cruise itinerary again, I would most certainly get the day pass from Our Lucaya.
cpygrl Posted June 15, 2010 #14 Share Posted June 15, 2010 Arenfroe - were there umbrellas as well? I'll be there in a few days and if I'm going to sit on the beach I HAVE to have an umbrella or I will FRY! :)
cruisinmisstee Posted June 15, 2010 #15 Share Posted June 15, 2010 cpygrl: There were lots of umbrellas around the pool area. The pool guy (can't remember his name) was VERY helpful and kept moving it for us to keep us cool and comfortable :D. Didn't see any on the beach. They did have those clam shell beach chairs but those had to be reserved. It was a great beach day and I would do it again!
comeon530 Posted June 16, 2010 #16 Share Posted June 16, 2010 They have several beach chairs that are under the palms and are somewhat shaded and pleasant. No umbrellas on the beach.

I don't know if they have chairs on the beach with umbrellas, but there are definitely chairs sitting under the shade of coconut trees.
comeon530 Posted June 17, 2010 #18 Share Posted June 17, 2010 I'm glad you enjoyed your day there at Our Lucaya. We loved it. It seems relatively undiscovered.
Margarita Monkey Posted June 18, 2010 #19 Share Posted June 18, 2010 Can you tell me more about your dining experience at the Prop Club? What did you eat and were there other choices on or near the resort?
arenfroe Posted June 18, 2010 #20 Share Posted June 18, 2010 There were other choices, but most offered hotdogs and hamburgers for $12 each. After walking around a bit, I found the Prop Club and checked out a menu. We could get entrees from $9-$16 or so...and not just hotdogs/hamburgers. Also, the place was air-conditioned with lots of TVs around. The service was very slow, but the food was good and I thought the price was fair. I had dry-rubbed ribs that were great. My wife had an awesome burger and my son had a HUGE calzone. My daughter had a 1/2 pound burger also. I think we all had water to drink. There are other places to eat, but it was too hot to keep walking around....so we settled on Prop Club. I'm glad we did.
comeon530 Posted June 18, 2010 #21 Share Posted June 18, 2010 We recommend Billy Joe's Conch Shack. It adjoins the property. They have burgers and such, but they have the most awesome conch burgers, fritters and salad.

However, I didn't know if they took plastic or not, and it was SOOOO hot, we opted for an air-conditioned dining room.
As You Wish Posted June 23, 2010 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2010 My cruise is scheduled to be in Freeport from 7AM to 2PM. What are your thoughts on whether it would still be worth going to Our Lucaya with such limited hours? I'm leaning towards yes because there doesn't seem to be many appealing alternatives. Does anyone know how early they open? Thanks.
comeon530 Posted June 23, 2010 #24 Share Posted June 23, 2010 I don't know what time the shops open, or the pool at Our Lucaya (if you are wanting a day pass), but by the time you debark, take a taxi to the beach area, I would expect things to be opening up.
