Caye Caulker is not a place for the "nice beach/nice bar" party crowd. The beach isn't like the resorty beaches elsewhere. Rather's it's more like Mahahual before the hurricane in 2007. Rather laid back and not fully developed (which IMO is a good thing). If you seach this board for Caye Caulker you'll find several threads with picutres. There are a few restaurants with bars there but nothing large catering to cruise passengers.

It'll take you 5 minutes tops to walk to the San Pedro water taxi pier, less than 10 to the CayeCaulker water taxi pier. Just hang left out of the Tourist Village where your tender docks. Water taxi ride is about 40-45 minutes.

There are no nice beaches near the port, like Grand Cayman or Cozumel. You have to travel to get there. Best bet is maybe Cucumber Beach were locals in Belize City go. It's in an area called Old Belize. Theres a thread on this board about it. Search for Cucumber beach.

Belize is primarily an excursion type port...cave tubing, Mayan Ruins, snorkeling on the reef. All best booked through your ship as you must tender to and from the ship and and the last tender is usually an hour before the ship sails. Ergo, if the ship's schedule says a 5PM departure, the last tender is at 4PM, ship time, not Belize time.

You may want to look into Bannister Island if you want something close to the port. We just returned and went to Caye Caulker but it is a 45 min. water taxi ride after tendering in. Bannister is mentioned a lot here and it is about 15 min. The cruise ship may have a tour that takes you directly there from the ship but returns you back to tourisn village to shop afterward. That was our second choice but we did Caye Caulker because the weather was great.

I had looked into Cucumber Beach on the boards and found negative reviews about it.
