Internet Issues on the Oasis

Recommended Posts

Sorry to wait so long to post this, but DW and I ran into a really strange issue on our 4/17 Oasis cruise. We normally get an Internet package to keep in contact with home and friends. When we did this on the Oasis, we were never able to use our Yahoo account to access the internet while aboard. We tried via the cabin and the small internet access room on Deck 7 (not marked on Deck plans). We asked about the issue at Guest Relations (got a deer-in-the-headlights look) and were told we were the problem. Now, DW and I are technologists, very well versed in internet tech. After trying again and again, we pressed the GR folks for more info. We were quietly told that the Oasis has a particular problem with Yahoo and AOL access due to some unknown issue. GR refunded our internet package cost and sent us on our way. We asked why they didn't tell us this before we signed up for the internet package and got the deer-in-the-headlights look again. Has anyone else run into this? We have never had any issues on four other RCCL ships.

Just wondering….

We got off May 1st as well, and had a bunch of problems. We both work in IT as well, and are very familiar with all things IT.

First, I had several problems setting up the internet account at first, in that same small internet room on deck 7. Once that was finally set, there were several times the connection got lost.

There is little to no explanation of internet use, and be aware you should either keep the original browser window open, or (as it will prompt you after you log in) bookmark the login page. Make sure you log out as soon as you're done.

Even so, logging out every time, we were shocked to find a charge for $1334 on our final bill. They accused us of not logging off properly, however, I logged off every time and closed all browser windows when done. Just watch your bill carefully.

Edit: By the way...they did remove the $1334.00 charge. Or I just may have gone postal on the customer service people.

We were on the May 1st and was able to log in through wireless connection to our laptop and there were no issues using Outlook or web application including Yahoo so if there are any issues, it's likely with the configurations of the PC's in the Internet room.

Tried several times to access my Yahoo webmail to no avail. Finally got some messages out via Facebook but I was not happy. I've always been able to send email via Yahoo on other ships, but not on the Oasis.
