Question about strikes

We will be in Athens from May 26, 2010 and leaving for Piraeus on May 31.

As strikes are planned for May 20th and May 31st, could any CC member that will be in Athens on 5/20 please inform if the taxis are running. Thank you for any information.

The metro may not run if it is government owned but I am hoping that taxi drivers are employed by private companies and are not going on strike.

For some good "man on the street" real time status of Athens you may want to go to "Trip Advisor's AThens Forum".

All is closed or not operating in Athens on the 20th except the airports and the green line metro (from the port to Athens and only 10am- 4pm).

Airport open all day.

This is the latest info from the local news.

It boggles my mind as what these workers hope to accomplish by this demonstration. The matter is in the hands of the European community and has nothing really to do with their government at this point. It is like shooting themselves in the foot. What's done is done and the Germans or the Brits don't really care about what the Greek labor guy has to go through. They will just plain loose commerce as a result of their anger...
