Hi Dndranchguys!

Over at the Carnival Roll Call Forum, there is a lively thread of friendly people that are very warm and welcoming for this sailing of the Triumph. My boyfriend and I are looking forward to a fun time at sea and spending a few days celebrating his birthday.

I really have no idea. Remember, Cruise Critic members might account for 2-3% of the passengers of a ship. This roll call is the only way I would have of finding any other lgbt people on my particular cruise. On the Carnival Roll Call Cruise Critic forum my boyfriend and I are the only people who are out. My whole reason for starting this thread was to see who else on the cruise is "family". Despite that, I'm really looking forward to meeting some of the Cruise Critic members on my sailing. They seem like an accepting, fun, warm group of people.

Don't be discouraged. I've gone on several cruises and always put a rollcall on the LGBT board and got few responses. There will be others on board...besides most of the crew. LOL! It will be fun. I am not sure if Carnival still has the FOD meetings or not. They can be hit or miss...mostly miss.

We are waiting on a real estate transaction to firm up to see if we will be able to go on those dates. We really hope we can go! We should know in the next day or so.

When are you getting to NOLA?

Oh I am not discouraged at all. If I needed a bunch of lgbt folk around to to enjoy my cruise, we would have gone on an Atlantis, rFamily, or RSVP cruise. I'm sure the two of us will have the time of our lives regardless of any connections we may or may not make on our journey with fellow passengers. Of course, forming those connections would definitely enhance the experience for us. I hope that your real estate transaction goes your way effortlessly.

Glad to hear that things are looking positive for you at present. I just realized I didn't answer one of your questions. I'm in a long distance relationship right now. Hopefully the long distance part will be ending soon. We are planning on changing that. Craig will be arriving in NOLA the morning of Friday, 10/22 while I will be arriving in the evening. After the cruise is over we are spending a couple of days in New Orleans to experience Halloween and explore the city.

Yay! Craig will be happy to hear the news. In fact, he is planning on going to visit some plantations on the Friday before the cruise in Louisiana. If you are interested in joining him, he'd more than welcome the company. I won't be arriving into NOLA until Friday evening. So if you are interested in exploring Lousiana on Friday you can email him at rusalka1970 at aol dot com. I made him aware of the possibility of you going on the cruise. He told me if you ended up booking the cruise to post his email address.

I have not been to NOLA before. So I am looking forward to a fun time. I plan on getting some use out of my Halloween costume.

I think we are just going to shop Friday afternoon. We are building a beach house and like to look for things for it.

We are staying at the Bourbon Orleans on Friday night. We'd love to have dinner and drinks after you arrive on Friday evening. And we have an excellent breakfast place to show you on Saturday morning before we board.

We are hyped! The last 5 months have been hell with property issues and dealing with an X. We need this release! This will be fun! You have kept up with more of the goings on over at the Roll Call board. You'll have to let us know where the parties are!

I'm so happy for you that you now can see the light at the end of the tunnel. A beach house reminds me of my childhood. I had aunts, uncles, and cousins who all lived at the Jersey shore. So I spent every summer of my childhood with visits to their beach homes. And no...I have not watched one minute of that MTV Juggernaut "Jersey Shore". From what little I can gather my family was nothing like those idiots.

Unfortunately, I am not due to arrive in New Orleans until after 8 pm at the airport. Craig is planning on being out by Baton Rouge in the evening gallivanting among Magnolia and Oak trees. Thank you so much for your generous invitation to dinner. As far as the next morning goes, we are staying at a hostel that is providing a free breakfast. Since we are pinching pennies, we intend to take advantage. You had great ideas, they just wouldn't work out for us.

For all the information regarding social stuff for our cruise see my latest post on the Roll Call Forum.

Hi guys, add two more of us to the cruise. My partner and I are booked and are looking forward to getting away for a week. We are from right outside of Memphis, and will be traveling with some of my family for my parents birthdays. Maybe we can all meet up and hang out some.

Welcome Doug and Brian!

I would definitely like to get together to hang out. You might want to visit the Carnival Roll Call forum. Our particular sailing has a very active roll call thread going with very friendly, warm, welcoming people. We've already got a few plans to meet and greet each other to make the trip more fun.

Have you ever been to New Orleans before? Are you planning on spending any time there before or after the cruise?

All my best

In case you have not made it over to the Carnival Roll Call forum, I wanted to invite your entire family to all of the social activities that we have got planned. Here is what we have come up with as of today:

Here is your primer to the Cruise Critic Social Activities for our cruise.

Meet 'n' Greet #1: Cruise Critic Sail Away Party - meet everyone from this thread at the deck that is directly above the New World Bar. Get your beverage of choice at the New World Bar and then climb the stairs up for a fantastic view. The New World Bar is on the Lido deck near the aft pool area known as New World Pool and across from Pizzeria Napoli. We're planning on gathering after the muster drill and before the first seating of dinner. Watch New Orleans glide by as we sail down the Mississippi with a nice cold beverage and a group of your newest buddies. We're planning on all wearing a blue shirt/top to help easily identify ourselves. Add some Mardi Gras beads on top to bring a bit of pizazz. They are cheap and easy to find at dollar or party stores. Years ago people celebrated the sail away with streamers and confetti. Today we plan to celebrate by bringing bubbles! How big is your wand?

Meet 'n' Greet #2: Early evening gathering on our first day at sea before the first seating of dinner. Just in case you missed meeting us the previous day because you were too busy figuring out life on board a ship. Gather at the New World Bar on the Lido deck.

Cabin Crawl: Let's have some fun on our second day at sea during the lunch hours when the rest of the ship is busy chowing down on the Lido deck. Explore the ship and check out how everyone else is living. We'll visit examples of different staterooms from folks on this thread with pit stops at various bars around the ship. Alcoholic beverages are optional as is a running poker game as you wander from room to room, deck to deck. "Wine for Health" (Jim) is encouraging all to decorate their rooms for the Halloween season. Meet at the New World Bar (aft bar on Lido deck) at noon.

Cabin Poker allows folks that participate in the Cabin Crawl added excitement while visiting their shipmates cabins by enjoying a hand of poker. On the Cabin Crawl, participants pick one card at each cabin. At the end of the Cabin Crawl, the hands are evaluated to find a winner. Typically a $5 ante is collected prior to the start of the Cabin Crawl to be paid back in prize money. Using one or multiple decks (No Jokers no Wilds) Each participant pulls one card at each cabin. Although 7 cards or more can be drawn, only the best 5 are counted. There are many ways to divide the money including half for the best hand, quarter for the second best hand and a quarter for the worst hand.

Slot pull: It's part casino slot machine, part conga line. Everyone contributes a designated amount and then shares the potential winnings accordingly. Time to be determined.

Also, here is more information about Halloween celebrations on Carnival. This is what happened in October 2009 for Carnival ships. It was a repeat of events in 2008. I would think that we could expect the same for 2010.

Carnival and M&M’S® have teamed up once again for their annual “Frightfully Fun” promotion aboard all “Fun Ship” voyages departing between Oct. 17 and 31, 2009. During the “Frightfully Fun” promotion, guests sailing with Carnival can enjoy a variety of fun-filled activities, everything from costume contests and Halloween-themed giveaways to scary movies, and, of course, trick or treating, with candies and other goodies from M&M’S®.

All guests sailing during the period are encouraged to bring their costumes and participate in the costume contest and parade.

Guests up to14 years of age are also invited to go trick or treating along the ship’s promenade and through various public areas to stock up on M&M’S® signature candies, including MILKY WAY®, SNICKERS®, SKITTLES®, STARBURST® and TWIX®.

Hope to see y'all at the Sail Away!

Or we could just go to the Friends of Dorothy cocktail meeting. On the "Fun Times" that people having been sharing for recent cruises, they have been having them on the first evening.

Really? I was wondering if they still had them or not. We were on Carnival last fall and they did not have a FOD meeting at all. Actually, I was thinking a small cocktail meet and greet for the 6 of us right after we get on the ship. You know...while we're waiting for the dreaded drill and our luggage to arrive. LOL!

To be honest, I think that might be a little early for me. I'm traveling light with only carry-on. I'll want to unpack my clothes and organize my room. I'll want to have a leisurely meal. We'll probably won't be arriving on board the ship until after 1:30 pm. Since I've never been to NOLA before I want to use the full morning to explore the city. Then, I'll head back to pick up my bags and head over to the ship.
