Recent Splendor Fun TImes/ Capers

Thrilled to see this post!! I was actually going to post a thread...'Need someone to be excited with!' (sounds a bit pitiful:().....but there hasn't been much to read about the Splendor...and 'quiet' roll call

We're sailing August 1st....first time on Splendor, however been to these ports before. We don't have any excursions planned....haven't booked exursions in the past...just 'word of mouth' ideas from others..or these boards!

We did go to a resort in either PV or Matz....the driver said we would be able to use the pool, etc...we did...it was BEAUTIFUL...no actual charge for it...but we ordered drinks & appetizers. Had chaise lounges...and just a few feet from the swimming pool in one direction...and the beach/ocean in the other direction. I'd like to do that again.....so if anyone has any names of resorts to share...that would be great!

When we went July 2004...I just remember the HEAT!! And, I had my niece and daughter to walk around with..they were 10 & 11yrs old...it seems like we just went into shops and/or restaurants in desperate search of air conditioning and shade!!! This trip...DD will be 18yo...with mom & dad. She and dad might do something 'adventurous'....they went parasailing once....I'm more the 'chaise lounge/resort' kind of gal :p

Just REALLY EXCITED about going on the cruise!!! I enjoy 'all cruise-related' things....

1) Room service first thing (for me, that's abt 10am;) w/coffee & bagel

2) Sleeping in ...NO alarm clock (bedding is SO comfortable!)....

3) Playing in the Casino (love that:D)....

4) Getting a little dressed up for dinner every evening...and 'extra' dressed up on formal night (or whatever it's called now!).....and by that...I mean...the 'basic black dress'....with heels & pretty 'bling' :)(mostly 'fun' rhinestone jewelry...LOVE big earrings, bracelets, etc)...

5) The 'friendliness' that's all around...I smile and say 'hi' to everyone...

6) Having Pizza at 2am at least once during the cruise...'just because I can!'

7) Enjoy blessing the people who make our cruise special (room attendants, DR servers, room service, cocktail servers, casino dealers, etc) with 'extra' tips throughout the cruise...just to show our appreciation....they work so hard and such long hours...and somehow manage to do it week in and week out...and treat us like 'we're the only ones!' For me...that's part of my 'budget'

Guess that's enough for now! Thank you for letting me 'be excited with you' tonight about our upcoming Splendor cruise!!! ;)

While Shawn does that guys, I will be going on the Splendor tomorrow, and scanning the documents when I get back next week. I also will be making videos on different topics of the ports/ship, any requests?

Dear CC123~

Have a wonderful time!! So...you're already in Long Beach? Did you fly or drive? We will be driving the day before...it's about a 6-7 hr drive. Staying at the Best Western.....decided on that, instead of Hilton, et al....we'll be there all of 14-16 hours! And...hubby wants to park at the pier...hates waiting for shuttles...we just figure the $105 parking is 'part of it!'

What time do you plan to be there in the morning? I've heard they don't do check-in at the Queen Mary any longer...is it next door? Think we've always gone to Queen Mary. I know there will be plenty of 'signage!'

Do you have any excursions planned? I will really look forward to your posts when you return! Love to hear others' experiences and appreciate the time it takes to put it into writing to help all of us that will be cruising soon. We will be on Empress Deck...decided on a suite, since there's 3 of us...and 7 nights...haven't read much about suites...however, know there's 'extra room space' and the balcony.

Anything u want to share...just know that there's an 'excited future Splendor cruiser' here happy to listen :)

That's so nice of you! :D If you go to any resorts on a day pass, would love to see what it's like. Also Stone Island if you go there. Gosh, I'm not going until August and I'm all excited for you that you're cruising tomorrow!!

If you take any video of the MDR, that would be great. I've seen video of our actual stateroom (an aft wrap! woo hoo!) but haven't seen any of the MDR.

But, you take whatever video you want, and I guarantee you, I'll watch it!! :D

Have a fantastic cruise!!

CC123, so glad I also found this post! Any info you can give about the splendor and pics would be great! A good pic of the ship, so I can put on my wall would be great also. We do not leave for a year, but the planing has started....trying to figure out what we want to do in ports with our kids:D. This is also our first cruise, and will be driving into LB. Plan to go to DL for a couple of days before the cruise, and just drive to the ship on the morning we leave for the cruise. Can't wait for your trip report!

Karen, your excitement is contagious! Part of the vacation fun for me is the research and anticipation before hand, and I love talking with people on the roll call. Ours is relatively quiet, too. :(

So, I'm excited with you! LOL. We've also been to the ports before--cruised the same itinerary on the Pride for Christmas 2003. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the ports differently this time--won't be doing the same things and really looking forward to Stone Island.

Like you, we're also planning to go to a resort--we'll go in PV (last time we did the dolphin swim and that was fantastic!). I've been looking at Dreams and thinking that's a good option. But read today on the boards that you can go to El Cid without a day pass and just pay for food and beverages so that's sounds pretty good.

2 months and 9 days!! :D:D

Hi MM from Oregon!

So glad to 'share the excitement' with someone! And re: resorts...now that I see 'El Sid'....that might be where we went (it was 2004...can't remember 'details'..lol)....I just know that 'somehow' we heard about the driver....took the 4 of us in a van to the resort...as I mentioned..there wasn't a 'resort fee'...but we did order beverages & nachos...and had a very pleasant afternoon. Also, enjoyed walking around & shopping the hotel lobby...think it was a type of 'timeshare'...it was a very nice place.

I also look forward to CC123 posts/videos/comments after the cruise...beginning TOMORROW! That's exciting...and I see from my 'cruise countdown'...we're 49 days away! Graduation day, family barbeque are past....now, just need to get through the end of fiscal yr at work (manager of a non-profit family resource center)...then I can 'relax' (ha,ha!) a little. Even during the 'busyness' of life....clicking on to Cruise Critic and reading about the cruise...all the 'tips' from experienced cruisers...is such a nice 'getaway.' I've started a folder on my computer...I copy&paste certain things to print and refer to later. Already completed our FunPasses...and even ordered a couple of 'surprises' from BonVoyage for our room....all of this helps with the 'excitement'!

I'll check back on this thread....we'll keep each other 'excited':)...and look forward to CC123 info upon return

If you're still there, CC123....once again...HAVE a WONDERFUL time! Tomorrow..I'll be watching the clock and 'knowing' what you'll be doing around 5pm :) Have a super week...and thanks in advance for sharing all that great info you'll bring back ;)

That sounds wonderful! Especially considering my boss is in Malaysia and it's 10:00 on a Saturday night (1:00 p.m. for him!) and he's sent me several e-mails in the last hour asking for stuff! LOL. Nachos--yum! I'll bet they're way better in Mexico than in Oregon! :D

Wow--only 49 days? Lucky you! I work in the high-tech industry and have a very busy job and just general life. As soon as I book a cruise, I'm back on the boards learning as much as I can about the ship and ports of call. It's part of the fun for me. My family always laughs at me because I do so much research and then when we get on the cruise, they all thank me because we have such a great time. LOL.

For some reason, I haven't been able to place an order for a "surprise" for DD (have always had something waiting for her and DH when we arrive)--the site says I need to enable cookies and they're already enabled. So thinking I'll call Monday and get her a little something. :)

Take care and happy cruising!
