lovemylife Posted February 9, 2005 #26 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Were you allowed to use the pool on the fantasy island excursion? How was the beach and the food? Our kids don't snorkel much, so I was hoping to find a nice beach and pool...

GNunn Posted February 9, 2005 #30 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Were you allowed to use the pool on the fantasy island excursion? How was the beach and the food? Our kids don't snorkel much, so I was hoping to find a nice beach and pool... We had access to everything at Fantasy Island, the beach is wonderful and clean with the reef blocking all currants and waves, you could see it but in the bay it was very calm and of course that wonderful clear water, plenty of shade also. There is a bar, wait staff, resturant and gift shop right there also. Sandwiches, burgers w/ fries run you about $6 .. a buffet runs around $16, sodas were available also but I'm not sure how much they were. I think it would be a perfect place for children. PA Cruisers2 Posted February 9, 2005 Author #33 Share Posted February 9, 2005 CruisinfromMN... There was also a Latitudes Party on Monday. I think it was about 2 pm or something like that. I don't exactly remember and I can't find the invitation so I can't tell you exactly when it was. If you have any Latitudes people in your group they would probably want to attend that party....free drinks & fancy snacks....also some door prizes and you get to meet the Captain & his crew. The Captain is very friendly. (He is Swedish...so am I...LOL) By the way....where in MN are you from. We lived in St.Paul for 2 years. We live in Arden Hills, grew up partially in White Bear Lake and partially in Florida. DH is from Roseville.
PA Cruisers2 Posted February 9, 2005 Author #35 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I don't really remember where those towns are. It was in 1970-71 that we lived there. Loved MN...hated the tornados in the summer...and the sub-zero temps in the winter. But it is a beautiful state. When are you going on your cruise? Who have you cruised with before? PA Cruisers2 Those are northern suburbs, although Arden Hills would have been in its very early stages of development. Where did you live? We have only sailed NCL. Our fifth trip will be in two weeks and then the Star to Alaska.
PA Cruisers2 Posted February 9, 2005 Author #37 Share Posted February 9, 2005 We lived on Eustis St. in St. Paul, MN. The Spirit was our 3rd cruise. We booked while on board for our 4th which will be next Jan. on the Dawn. That will be our 3rd cruise on the Dawn....gotta love that ship! I am already making a list of what to pack! LOL. My girlfriend and her DH went with us on our 2nd Dawn cruise to the Southern Caribbean....and now she is bitten by the cruise bug too. They did a Disney last spring and will do the Alaska on the Spirit this fall. Another couple we know heard us rave so much after our first cruise that they went on the Dawn & loved it. They just finished doing their taxes and are now planning another cruise. Oh, what have I started!!!! LOL PA Cruisers2

LOL PA Cruisers2 I have been wanting to try the Dawn but keep getting scard off by the colder temperatures at the start and end of the trip. Should I really be worried about that? But you know here in Minnesota our winters can be tough so I want warm weather as quick as possible on vacation. I have heard of Eustis and have a pretty good idea where it is. PA Cruisers2 Posted February 11, 2005 Author #39 Share Posted February 11, 2005 CruisinMN ~Do try to book something on the DAWN. We loved the Spirit, but I do love the Dawn also. They both have their own unique characteristics. I don't think you would be disappointed. We left on a Sunday afternoon (5 PM I think or something like that), and by Monday afternoon it was getting warmer. There is plenty to do inside until the temps get warmer. When we came back to NY there was ice in the Hudson River and they had to get another boat to break it up so we could get into the pier....but that was fun to watch. It is all part of the experience! The Dawn is a beautiful ship. I especially liked the pool area because it is set up in an amphitheater effect, with rows of beach chairs at the far end of the pool. Lots of room for everyone to enjoy the sunshine and pool activities. I think I would probably be happy on most any cruise (although I have only gone with NCL) but DH & I are low key type people (camping in the summer) so we do enjoy Freestyle. We are on vacation to relax...not getting all dressed up is vacation for us. Not for everyone...but that is what makes freestyle so nice...everyone can dress and eat whenever they want. We did see a family get turned away from Windows on the Spirit because they were dressed in shorts. They looked very nice but were in shorts none the less. They went back to their room and changed and then came back. (No scene because they were turned away....which was very refreshing.) One thing that we have noticed....and please, any New Yorkers...I don't mean to offend you (I lived in NY for 22 years)....When we cruised out of New York, people were less accepting of "the rules" and there tended to be alot of complaining (whining). There were MANY people from the NY metro area and abroad on board. When we cruised from Miami there was a wide diversity of people from all over the US. Those people were impressed with the ship, the itinerary, and freestyle. They seemed to have more fun. Now please....we cruised two times out of Miami and only once out of NY, so maybe we just happended to cruise with an ornary bunch (of 2000 people), but that was what we observed. Some people just can't be happy, even on vacation. As my DH says, "In life, you have to bring your own happiness with you." We try to live with this "rule" and we are happy most of the time. Once again, I don't mean to offend anyone from NY or there abouts. Everyone can have a cranky day (even Me...LOL!). But when you are on vacation, aren't you supposed to have fun and relax. (Now where did all that come from?) End of sermon!! Anyway, I am starting my countdown for our next cruise on the Dawn out of NY next Jan. I am happy already!!! :) PA Cruisers2
