Nassau beach

Can we get off the ship and go to the beach in Nassau? We are doing the aquarium at Atlantis, but not staying to use their beach because of the cost. Just wondering if it's possible to go to a beach for free in Nassau. I would like to prepare the kids, if that's the case.

yes, depending on your kids ages and swimming ability, there are 2 good choices for free public beaches.

One is just up the beach from Atlantis next to the RUI hotel. It's called cabbage beach and there is a public walkway up over the dunes to the beach. YOu can rent a chair and/or umbrella, but there are no restrooms or concession stand. Locals sell water and rum drinks from coolers on the the beach.

The water can get pretty rough here, so if you have little ones, you can't let them play at the waters edge. They would get sucked into the waves.

There are no lifeguards.

The other is Junkanoo Beach (lighthouse beach) which is located on the western esplanade, just outside of downtown on the other side of the hilton. It's not as "sandy" as cabbage beach. can be rocky in spots, but it's got clear calm water and restrooms and concession stands.

Again, no lifeguards.
