Athens Excursion Question

My DW and I will be cruising on the Mariner of the Seas in April 2011 and are looking for a private tour of major sights in Athens and the ancient city of Corinth. I have seen a number of reviews on Athens taxis and the bad experiences that many have had. As a result, I believe that we would prefer to book an excursion from Piraeus and am looking for experiences (positive or negative) that members may have had with either Athens Taxi Tours or with Athens Tour Greece, who both offer excursions in Athens and Corinth.

We just used George the Famous Taxi Driver (in May) and I must say, he was one of the best tour guides we have ever had. His taxi is clean and in excellent shape and has a/c. He mostly does just private tours and not picking up people throughout the day like most taxi drivers do. He was waiting for us when we got off the ship. And that was with a change of plans with the docking area for us. The ship had to change it's location.

 

Check out his website. You won't be disappointed. He gets booked up quickly, but if he is already booked, he recommends other drivers that are good too.

We used Greek Taxi, following many great recommendations on this board, and I cannot say enough good about them. Nick, the owner's son, was our driver and he was a wonder. Besides a great deal of knowledge it was amazing how he found (legal?) parking places right at the entrance of each site. He also took us to a delightful neighborhood restaurant for authentic gyros.

Exactly. That is what I was saying. He is more of a private tour than a general city taxi driver. Might be the way the OP wants to go.

We used Dennis at http://www.toursofathens.com. We are just two, he combined us with two other couples who we ended up to be very compatible with. Dennis has a larger very comfortable vehicle and is very knowledgeable. He got us around the city (there were even some demonstrations on that day) with ease and we were able to see everything we wanted on our ONE day in Athens. Highly recommend him. Have a great trip!
