WillieD13 Posted July 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2010 At Grand Turk we took one of the excursions offered by Carnival (Ultimate Snorkel), and had a great time. 2 stops, one by a reef in shallow water (10'-12'), and one out by the wall (25'/7000'). We had a few people (self included) who thought to bring food for the fish. I used a plastic water bottle filled with small pieces of bread. One squeeze brings schools of fish. The crew also fed the fish (the picture with everyone clustered around the school). The water was quite clear, with water temperature of low to mid 80s, so you could stay in it all day. There was only a mild breeze, so the water was pretty calm, and there was no current that I could detect. The crew was very nice, and was helpful to those who had never snorkeled before and/or were weak or non-swimmers. If we ever get back to GT, I would definitely consider this excursion again. (sorry about the pic quality, this was the first time I used the camera underwater, still getting the hang of that).

WillieD13 Posted July 26, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Thanks WillieD13. was either of your stops accessible by land and without going on ab excursion? Yes, and no. If you can get to the beach up by the main part of Cockburn Town, it was straight off the beach, BUT, you would need to swim out a couple hundred yards. Unless you have a small inflatable boat or raft, large enough for both you and your dive buddy to both rest, I would not recommend it. There are plenty of places you can go from the beach, but excursions like this, to me, are worth the price, just for the sake of safety, and to make sure you get to a site worth the effort.
