JeanBart Posted August 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2010 We'll have approx 4 hours in Rome before we leave to board our ship, and would love to visit The Forum. On checking online there's conflicting information about whether or not tickets are required, and if there is a charge for entry or not. What we would like to do is just buy the tickets (if necessary) before hand and to pick up a guide at the gates/entry. We did consider doing a tour with one of the tour companys operating in Rome, but for this visit we have decided we really only want to visit The Forum. Any help or advise would be appreciated. euro cruiser Posted August 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2010 Although entry into the Forum was free for several years (from the Jubilee year of 2000 until 2008 or so), now a fee is required once again. The Forum opens every day at 8:30 AM, and the entrance directly into the Forum is on Via della Salara Vecchia, which is where Via Cavour ends at Via dei Fori Imperiali. There is some conflicting information on the official city tourism web site. Most places say that the only tickets available are combination tickets that include the Colosseum and Palatine as well as the Forum and cost Euro 12,00. However, the city site indicates that individual tickets for the Forum only are available for Euro 9,00. It's worth asking about this, but be prepared to pay the 12 Euro. http://en.turismoroma.it/roma_ti_accoglie/in_giro_per_musei/foro_romano (this link shows the 9 Euro ticket) This site, also sponsored by the City of Rome, tells of the 12 Euro ticket: http://www.060608.it/en/cultura-e-svago/beni-culturali/beni-archeologici/foro-romano.html
JeanBart Posted August 7, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted August 7, 2010 Thank you euro cruiser, the information links are really helpful, someone did tell us that they had managed to pick up a guide as they went into the forum and had a terrific and informative tour, we're hoping to do the same. My son has just returned from his student interrail holiday and he picked up a guide outside the Forum - we're hoping to do just that as well. He said the Forum was great, well worth a visit! :)
