Seattle Restaurant recommendation

Hi, My wife and I are heading to Seattle for a few days before we leave to go on our Alaskan cruise, and I am looking for some good breakfast places and good seafood restaurants for dinner in the downtown area. Thanks for the help.

For seafood, you won't go wrong with either Salty's or Palisade. Salty's is across Elliott Bay on Alki - you'll head south to get there. Palisade is north and west of downtown, also on Elliott Bay.

Call them from the hotel - both offer towne car service to and from downtown hotels.

Will you have a car? We ate at the Salty's south of Sea Tac Airport and liked it but found it a bit pricey. My wife actually had better, and slightly less expensive, wild salmon at Spencer's for Chops at the Hilton Sea Tac Airport (I had a giant pork chop). Tried Tripadvisor for reviews of restaurants downtown? There are lots of places along the waterfront with great views (obviously need to choose carefully).

I'm not enough of a food snob to disdain places like Salty's, Anthony's, Ivar's, or Palisade. I've had some great meals at all of them. They do tend to draw a lot of tourists (which is a strike against them in some people's book), and to have less-adventurous menus than some folks prefer.

Etta's http://tomdouglas.com/index.php/restaurants/ettas is one very popular place for seafood. It's part of Tom Douglas' empire--he's a local celebrity chef with half a dozen restaurants around town, all highly regarded by a lot of folks. I've never been to Etta's, but I'd love to try it. His other places that I've tried are outstanding. Douglas just opened a new place next door to Etta's--Seatown Snack Bar http://tomdouglas.com/index.php/restaurants/seatown--that also has lots of seafood on the menu. It's more casual, and probably cheaper. Both are at Pike Place Market.

Another seafood place that opened recently is Blueacre Seafood http://www.blueacreseafood.com/. The chef and owner is the same guy who does Steelhead Diner at the Market. I haven't been to Blueacre but Steelhead Diner is one of my favorites.

One of the best breakfasts in town is Tolouse Petit http://www.toulousepetit.com/. It's not downtown--more toward Seattle Center--but it would be a reasonable cab or bus ride, and well worth it!

Before our cruise in May we spent a couple of days in Seattle. We ate at Salty's and the food was very good, our waiter not so much. We enjoyed the view and it was nice that they picked us up and we didn't have to find our way there. Would go again if we were in Seattle.

Also ate at Etta's. Great food and the waitress was really helpful. DH and I were not real hungry. We both wanted the crab salad. She said it was very large would we like to split it. So glad we did. Would definitely eat at Etta's again.

We had dinner one night at the Space Needle. Saw some mixed reviews of the food so we were a little concerned. Our meal was delicious and the view is incredible. Another place I would try again.

I would recommend Ray's Boathouse for seafood.

Ray's would be my choice over Salty's for the food, both have excellent views of the sound, are nice restaurants with good atmosphere. I think both can be in the pricier range.

never mind info on seattle water taxi for Salty's - didn't see above post!
